University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), PU, Chandigarh organized one day event on Nanochemistry ,here today funded by the Nano Organizers of Govt of Karnataka S&T Bangalore India.  The program was inaugurated by Professor A K Grover, former Vice Chancellor Panjab University. Professor Kanwaljit Chopra welcomed all participants. Professor Ashok K Ganguli Head, Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi 110016, INDIA delivered the inaugural lecture. The  sessions included  video show, experimental demonstrations by Professor Uday Maitra, IISc, Bangalore, quiz by Dr Neelima Dhingra, UIPS, lecture and exhibition. The technical lectures covered   diverse aspects of Nano including applications by Dr Sheet from IISER Mohali and Professor Bhalla from CSIR IMTECH covering success stories & career opportunities in Nano. Dr Anurag Kuhad, Local coordinator of the event informed that 162 meritorious science students (class XI/XII) from 09 schools of Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh participated in the above mentioned program. Jawahar Navodaya Vidylaya students won the quiz competition. Dr Sangeeta P Sah and Dr Neelima Dhingra, UIPS coordinated all the activities. In the  valedictory function student’s feedback, mementos, prize and certificate distribution to all Panjab University mentors, students, escort teachers, volunteer and staff of Panjab University was organised .

The Central Detective Training Institute (CDTI) organized a training workshop for students of Centre for Police Administratio, Panjab University ,Chandigarh. Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Chairperson Police Administration and Dr. L. S. Rana, Faculty, CDTI organized various sessions of training workshop. The workshop has focused on theoretical as well practical aspects of the forensic science and investigation procedures. Dr. Rana, and DSP Nand Kishore  recreated the scene of crime (Rape, Ballistics, Road accidents) and demonstrated procedure of investigation to students. The workshop concluded with the interaction of Sh. Ramesh Kumar DSP CDTI, with students and vote of thanks by Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Chairperson, Police Administration. 5 faculty members/ research scholars and 45 students participated in the workshop.

कॉर्डिनेशन कमेटी ऑफ गवर्नमेंट एंड एम.सी इंपलाइज एंड वर्कर्स यू टी चंडीगढ़ की मीटिंग शांतिकुंज सेक्टर 16 में हुई l जिसमें कॉर्डिनेशन कमेटी से संबंधित यूनियनो ने भाग लिया l जिसमें 5 दिसंबर को कॉर्डिनेशन कमेटी द्वारा रखी गई कंवेंशन के बारे में चर्चा हुई श्री अश्वनी कुमार कनवीनर कॉर्डिनेशन कमेटी ने संबोधित करते हुए कहा की चंडीगढ़ प्रशासन के कहने पर कॉर्डिनेशन कमेटी ने 26 सितंबर की हड़ताल को स्थगित कर दिया था l चंडीगढ़ प्रशासन ने वादा किया था, के 17 अक्टूबर को कॉर्डिनेशन कमेटी की लीडरशिप से मांगो के ऊपर चर्चा होगी l पर चंडीगढ़ प्रशासन ने बिना किसी कारण 17 अक्टूबर को होने वाली मीटिंग  स्थगित कर दी और अभी तक कोई भी मीटिंग कॉर्डिनशन कमेटी के साथ नहीं रखी जिस कारण मुलाजिम वग् में बहुत रोष है l इसीलिए 5 दिसंबर को होने वाली कंवेंशन में चंडीगढ़ प्रशासन विरुद्ध अगला प्रोग्राम किया जाएगा l मुलाजिम की मुख्य मांगे कांट्रेक्ट और आउटसोरस वर्करों की सुरक्षित पॉलिसी बनाइ जाए, मृतक के वारिसो को नौकरी दी जाए l सेंट्रल रूल सेंट्रल पे स्केल दिया जाए l खाली पोस्टें जल्द भरी जाए l गांव के पंचायतों में काम करने वाले डेली वेज कर्मचारियों को बेसिक पे प्लस डीए दिया जाए l कारपोरेशन में काम करने वाले मुलाजिमो के रुलो में संशोधन किया जाए l  स्कूलो में काम करने वाले चौकीदारो के 8 घंटे निश्चित की है जाए l

A week long national workshop on “Continuum Mechanics: Principles and Applications” from November 19-24, 2018 was inaugurated today at the Department of Mathematics, Panjab University Chandigarh by Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, PU . PU VC in his address, shared his experiences about mathematics and motivated the participants towards the importance of this subject in every field of research. Prof. Ramesh Chander, a retired Professor from IIT Roorkee was the chief guest, who emphasized the application of mathematics in various fields of sciences. He made a clear cut explanation of mathematics through continuum mechanics in the field of seismology.  Prof. Gurmeet Kaur, Chairperson talked about the department. Prof. S K Tomar told that the main aim of the workshop is to train the new buddies in the field of Continuum mechanics being one of the important branches of Mathematics, which has wide applications in the field of Engineering and Technology. Eminent speakers, namely, Professor Peeyush Chandra (IIT Kanpur), Prof. A K Nandkumaran (IISc, Bangalore), Prof. P G Siddheshwar (Bangalore University) and Prof. M D Sharma (K U Kurukshetra) will be lecturing on different issues of Continuum mechanics. This workshop is fully sponsored by National Center of Mathematics (a joint venture of IIT Bombay and TIFR Mumbai). Around 50 participants across nation are attending this workshop. Dr. Dilbag Singh a UGC-Assistant Professor is the convener of this workshop.

Department of Physics, PU No.#1 In the Global Rankings, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh has been ranked as the best University of the country and 3rd amongst best institutions of India, according to the US News and World Report Rankings 2019. Apart from this, Department of Physics, PU is ranked No. 1 in India. 1250 top Universities Globally have been included in this ranking and PU has global score of 44.5 with Global Rank of #551 way ahead of various peer Universities of India. The next university, after PU, is AMU which stands at #9. After that DU, BHU and Jadavpur are at #10, 12, 13 respectively. Followed by Pune, Hyderabad and JNU at #15, 16 and 17 respectively. The Rankings provide insight into how Universities compare globally. Since an increasing number of students plan to enrol in Universities outside of their own country, the Best Global Universities Ranking- which focus specifically on Academic Research and Reputation overall- can held those applicants to compare institutions around the world. The Rankings are based on 15 indicators which includes Global Research Reputation (12.5%), Regional Research Reputation (12.5%), Publications (10%), Books (2.5%), Conferences (2.5%), Normalized citation impact (10%), Total Citations (7.5%), Number of publications that are among the 10% most cited (12.5%), Percentage of total publications that are among the 10% most cited (10%), International collaboration (5%), Percentage of Total Publications with International collaborations (5%), Number of highly cited papers that are among the top 1 percent most cited in their respective field (5%) and Percentage of total publications that are among the top 1 percent most highly cited papers (5%). Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, PU congratulated the students, research scholars, teachers and staff for improving on global platform. He said that the Academic Research of PU has been commendable and all concerted steps would be taken to take PU to greater heights. Prof. Rajeev Puri, Officating Chairperson, Department of Physics, PU showed gratitude towards students, researchers and the faculty for all the cooperation and team work for taking  the department number 1 place in the country. Prof. M Rajivlochan, Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, PU said that this ranking which gives value to research and underplace the entirely subjective views about a University, results in PU getting a high rank.

As part of Road Safety Festomania - 2018, a workshop on Road Safety was organized in Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh on November 19, 2018. The students were educated on the importance of following the traffic rules not only to avoid penalties but for the sake of their own and others’ safety.  The resource person, Ms. Parul from Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd., explained the various reasons of road accidents and stressed on the need to observe traffic rules in order to reduce the number of casualties on the road. It has been statistically shown that during the past 5 years the number of fatalities and injuries associated with road accidents are steadily increasing, which is largely due to ignorance of safety measures and non- adherence to traffic rules. Some effective measures of road safety such as  the use of good quality of helmets, wearing of seat belts, the right use of indicators, defensive driving according to weather and road conditions, use of vehicle lights & mirrors, maintaining speed limits, understanding the traffic lights & signals, etc. were emphasized. The students participated with enthusiasm in activities such as slow riding and slalom. 10 finalists were selected from among the participants for the final event to be held on November 24, 2018.

Chandigarh celebrated the third event of the State Level Kala Utsav-2018, Painting Competition today at Govt. Girls Model Senior Secondary School, Sector-18 Chd. Various Govt. /Govt. Aided /Private Schools participated with full enthusiasm and vigor. The Judges for the event were Mr. Amarbir Singh, Assit. Prof. Arts College; Mrs. Purnima, Associate Prof., Arts College and Mr. Lakhwinder Singh, Assit Prof. Arts College. The Judges critically evaluated each and every painting as per the guidelines specified by MHRD/NCERT. The aim of the event was to help the students to explore, understand and display their artistic talents which further gives them an opportunity to understand and celebrate cultural diversity at school, district, state and national level. On the basis of the judgment in the male category, Sanjay of GMSSS 56 secured the 1st position; Shehzad Ali of GMSSS-MHC secured the 2nd position and Shivbir of GMHS-RC 1 Dhanas secured the 3rd position. In the Female category Shilpa of GMSSS- 39 secured the 1st position; Ambika of GMHS- Manimajra secured the 2nd position and Jaspreet Kaur of GMHS- 26 PL secured the 3rd position. Smt. Saroj Mittal, Dy. Director School Education; Smt. Alka Mehta, Assistant Director Adult Education and Mission Coordinator Samagra Shiksha; Mrs. Neeta Sandhu Principal cum Cluster Head, GMSSS-16; Mrs. Raj Bala, Principal cum Cluster Head, GGMSSS- 18 and  Mrs. Rajni Mahajan, Pedagogy Coordinator, the CRCs and other officials of Education Department were present during the function.

Today, Raman Dhaka resigned from the post of National Vice President, Indian National Students Organization (INSO). Raman joined INSO in the year 2010 and worked hard to strengthen the party in Panjab University Campus, Chandigarh UT College and Universities of Haryana. Raman joined this party for Shri OM Prakash Chautala, who was dynamic leader of Indian National Lokdal (INLD). Now INSO is working independently from INLD. “I was born a Lokdali and will continue to work as a dedicated Lokdali under the leadership of Shri Om Prakash Chautala”, he said. After joined the INSO in 2010, Raman dedicatedly played his role and duties to  achieve the goal and also set a benchmark for Organisation.  He remained as Chairman of INSO, Panjab University, Chandigarh. During these years, Raman also remaied in-charge of many in student elections in Chandigarh, Haryana and Delhi University.

गांधी स्मारक भवन सैक्टर 16 ए, चंडीगढ़ के सभागार में आज प्राकृतिक चिकित्सा दिवस धूमधाम से मनाया गया । यह कार्यक्रम नोर्थ जोन कल्चर सैंटर, पटियाला एवं भारतीय स्टेट बैंक के सहयोग से आचार्यकुल एवं प्राकृतिक चिकिसा समिति चण्डीगढ के तत्वाधान में सम्पन्न हुआ कार्यक्रम की अध्यक्षता गांधी स्मारक निधि के अध्यक्ष के.के.शारदा ने की । मुख्य वक्ता एवं प्राकृतिक चिकित्सा समिति नई दिल्ली क प्रसिद्ध प्राकृतिक चिकित्सक डा. ए.के.अरुण थे। इसे अलावा डा. एम.पी.डोगरा ने भी विचार व्यक्त किए। स्वागत डा. देवराज त्यागी और धन्यवाद प्रेम विज ने  किया । मुख्य वक्ता के रुप में बोलते हुए डा. अरुण ने कहा कि जब से हम प्राकृति से दूर हुए है तब से बिमारियों से घिर गए है । जब से हम मिठाईयां या जंक फूड का चलन षुरु हुआ है तब से पौष्टिक तत्व कम हुआ स्वस्थ को बनाये रखने के लिये हमें प्राकृति अर्थात आपको उपवास और पानी का ज्यादा उपयोग करना होगा । डा एम.पी.डोगरा ने प्राकृतिक उपचार पर बोलते हुए कहा कि आज हमनें मोटे अनाज जब से ज्वार, बाजरा, कोदार आदि का प्रयोग करने से षरीर में विटामिन सी इत्यादि की पूर्ति होती है एवं पाचन षक्ति बढ़ती है । के.के.शारदा ने बोलते हुए कहा कि स्वस्थ रहना प्रत्येक मनुष्य के हाथ में है अर्थात उसे प्राकृति के साथ समन्वय रख कर अपनी जीवन षैली अपनानी चाहिये । सुबह के समय “रन फार नैचरोपैथी”  का आयोजन सुखना लेक पर किया गया जिसमे 170  लोगों ने भाग लेकर प्राकृतिक चिकित्सा के प्रति लोगो को जागरुक किया ।

The five day “Executive Development Programme” which is organized by Association of Indian College Principals, registered body at National level for college Principals in collaboration with Panjab University, Chandigarh, started here today. Professor Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, PU while appreciating the efforts of Dr.Parvinder Singh, Controller of Examination and Dr. R.K.Mahajan, Fellow and Member Syndicate alongwith Dean, College Development Council Professor Sanjay Kaushik for organising this EDP at PU, said that it is a very vibrant platform where seasoned College Principals will be deliberating on the sensitive issues of higher education. Particularly issues related to Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Intellectual Property (IPR), Capacity Building and Corporate Social Responsibility General Secretary of AICP Principal Dr.R.K.Mahajan informed that this programme was first of its kind at Panjab University and this will long way in serving the students community and the Colleges in a fruitful manner. Chairman, Board of Trustees AICP Dr.V.R.Shirgurkar presented the keynote address and informed that AICP has conducted several EDPs, conferences and workshops for college Principals. Sole purpose of this type of programme is to empower the academic executives to bring excellence in higher education. Dr. Parvinder Singh gave an elaborative talk on ‘Education Leadership in the  context of RUSA’. He threw light on role of leadership in higher education with emphasis on infrastructure, funding, evaluation, concept of New Model Colleges and Cluster Colleges, conversion of College into University. Dr.V.R.Shirgurkar apprised principals about new Methodology in NAAC. Dr.Sarabjeet Singh of Nightingale College of Education, Ludhiana sponsored the workshop kits. Thirty Principals from all over country are participating in this quality enhancing workshop. Senators Dr.Gurdeep Sharma, Dr.N.R.Sharma and Dr.IPS Sidhu were also present on the occasion

The highlight of the second day of the 6^th edition of Literati was the presence of world-renowned motivational speaker, management guru, and corporate trainer and author, Shiv Khera, whose latest book, ‘You Can Achieve More’ has just hit the book stores. Known for his penchant for powerful one-liners, he remarked that thre is nothing called perfection in the world, since each one of us can always do more and achieve more, only if we learn to live by design and not by default, he said. In order to stand out in the world, do something outstanding, he remarked. This book, he said, teaches you to live an extraordinary life. Sharing his life story full of initial struggles from washing cars to selling insurance, Shiv Khera said that in whatever he did he gave his best, but learnt some of the best lessons of his life from his seniors, who enlightened me that the biggest problem in achieving more was me alone and no one else. In every organization the biggest problem is only people problem and there is a need to change one’s attitude about work ethos and money too. He said that the biggest difference is that of understanding whether you are making money or earning money.   Earning money in the rightful way is the only path to success, since making money is criminal while earning money is spiritual, he advised. He lamented the growing indulgence of Indians with superstitions and horoscopes that not only makes them depend purely on fate instead of learning from their mistakes and take corrective action to grow up. The session was attended by large number of people. Gurucharan Das and Siddartha Giggo had session about their book Earthly Desires : Kama Diaries where Gurucharan Das said that kama has to be seen in an optimistic way, as not a mere objectified way of looking at different postures but a source of creation. Siddhartha Gigoo on the other hand excerpted the essence of cross-border love in his book with struggle of displaced people of Kashmir. Master Chef India winner Pankaj Bhadouria and runner up Kandla Nijhowne gave their view about the whole experience of food and cooking it as according to them cooking is sensory experience which involves all five senses.  They advised restrictive use of masalas and spices in the food, undercooking and focusing on lively eye-pleasing presentation when plated. The biographer of Priyanka Chopra and Shashi Kapoor besides various other inside stories of Bollywood, Aneesh Chhabra in conversation with News18 editor Jyoti Kamal, talked about the changes that are pervasive in Mumbai to launch the kids of stars, whereas in earlier days it used to be a huge struggle for the star sons to establish themselves in the industry by sheer hardwork. The Punjabi session in the afternoon explored the changes that have come about in the Punjabi music by celebrated lyricists and singers of both old and the new genre. Shamsher Sandhu and Charan Likhari of old school, with Jaani as the new-age youthful singer and Punjabi novelist Masha Kaur, discussed with Ravee Pandher the nuances of the transformation in Punjabi cultural presentation that has come about which is a natural phenomenon.  While old school considered the traumatic cultural upheaval caused by the partition in 1947, the terrorism of 80s and now the unfortunate drug addiction that has destroying the social fabric of Punjab. Jaani however said that because of the use of common phrases and understandable words from Hindi, coupled with growing trend in Bollywood to include Punjabi numbers in the movies, has helped the Punjabi music and songs getting worldwide acceptance and popularity. The subject of gender inequality, female foeticide and not-so-much-talked-about subject of incest evinced keen interest among audience in ‘The Balancing Act’, where celebrated journalist and author Gita Arvamudan observed that male female ratio continues to deteriorate in the country despite the efforts and campaign by the government to stop female foeticide.  On the other hand a research scholar Supreet Dhiman shared the trauma that many children are facing today due to the taboo-word of incest in the family. She remarkedt that incest has remained a taboo subject in the family but because of her research and initiative to end incest, there is growing awareness and many of the victims are being offered psychological help to overcome this mental trauma, while counseling is being provided by the Trust. The panel moderated by Saguna Jain agreed to reach out widely in the society to balance out the social impact through timely interventions. Celebrated author and entrepreneur Vineet Bajpai, former bureaucrat and motivational speaker and author Vivek Atray along with advertising professional and author Anisha Motwani, discussed the need to guide the coming generation with tips to managetheir life by learning to be self-motivated. Rajneesh Watts and Raja Bhasin from Shimla shared the stories of their respective cities in conversation with Manju Jaidika. Earlier in the morning Dr Jaishree Sethi  of Story Ghar from Delhi conducted a British Council workshop on story telling. Attended by adults as well as children Jaishree said that art of story telling helps teachers to effectively deliver the lessons to children as well as works equally well in the corporate sector.
