Five days workshop on “Creation and Management of Digital Libraries Using Open Source Software" organized by A.C. Joshi Library, Panjab University  in collaboration with INFLIBNET from 7-11 January, 2019, concluded, here today. Prof Shankar Ji Jha, Dean University Instruction and officiating Vice Chancellor in his inaugural address, emphasized that recorded human knowledge is key to development which is reposted in the libraries and also, in this digital world library professionals should come up with innovative ideas to disseminate the knowledge to the society. While delivering the valedictory address Professor Karamjeet, Registrar, PU, said that libraries are the lamp for the educational society. Professor Rajesh Gill, President, PUTA spoke that there is a huge responsibility on libraries to provide authentic information. Dr Rashmi Yadav, University Librarian informed that the workshop was attended by 38 delegates and few research scholars from various part of India – Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttrakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Bihar. All the participants received the Certificates for successful completion of the workshop.

Lohri was celebrated Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh with traditional fervour. Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instructions and officiating PU Vice Chancellor participated in the Lohri celebration function organized by PU Campus Students Council (PUCSC) and lit the bonfire. He greeted the students, alumni and other stake holders of the University. Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, Prof. Nandita Shukla, Dean International Students, Prof. Rattan Singh, Chief Vigilance Officer, Prof. Emanual Nahar, Dean Student Welfare, Prof. Devinder Singh, Secretary to Vice Chancellor, various Wardens of PU Hostels, Ms. Kanupriya, PUCSC President and office bearers of PUCSC, students, research scholars participated in the Lohri celebrations at Student Centre.

UBS student wins National Level Essay Writing Competition

Ms. Priyam Kukreja student of University Business School(UBS), Panjab University, Chandigarh, M.Com. Honours 2nd Year has bagged 1st position in National Level Essay Writing Competition organised by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra in August 2018. She has won a cash prize of Rs. Ten Thousand. In her essay, she expressed views on “Social Media: A Two Edged Sword” highlighting how Social Media has dramatically changed the viewpoint of societal communication and interaction; thus, focusing on the need to understand the complicacies of virtual  life. More than 200 students from across the country actively participated in the contest, eleven out of them being from UBS. Another student Ms. Isha Joshi of M.Com. Honours 2nd Year has bagged consolation prize. A blind review process and rigorous plagiarism check was administered for the competition. The winners elated with the accomplishment offered ardent gratitude towards Assistant Professor Dr. Neha Gulati, UBS, PU who mentored the students and gave them steady guidance, untiring support and sustained motivation to achieve great heights with dignity and courage. According to Dr. Neha Gulati, “There is need to foster creativity and harness initiates among students to encourage commitment  to academic integrity.”
