PU VC ATTENDS INAUGURAL
SESSION OF 106th INDIAN SCIENCE CONGRESS

Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University,
Chandigarh along with PU delegation attended the inaugural session of 106th
Indian Science Congress inaugurated by Honourable Prime Minister of India at
Jalandhar, here today. PU VC invited the three Nobel laureates German-American
biochemist Prof. Thomas Sudoph (2013 Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine for
work on vesicle trafficking) ; Hungarian-born Israeli biochemist and Nobel
laureate in Chemistry Prof. AvramHershko and physicist Frederick Duncan Michael
Haldane (2016 Nobel Prize in Physics) present on the occasion to Panjab
University. Prof. AvramHershko, Nobel laureate confirmed his visit to PU in the
coming days. The PU VC had an interaction with the Secretary of Department of
Biotechnology, GOI and Director General, Council of Scientific and Industrial
Research (CSIR) with regards to possibility of collaboration regarding
affordable technology for Rural and Remote areas. Honourable Prime Minister
also talked about the same in his address. There was also an interactive
meeting with Director General and Director of Defence Research and Development
Organisation(DRDO) with regard to joint projects of PU with DRDO.
