Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2018
– Hardware edition (SIH2018) was inaugurated at CSIO amid fanfare and enthusiasm.
She is the first of its kind innovative methodology
adopted in India that will provide an opportunity to young technical minds to showcase
their creativity in the form of hardware products that can solve some daunting
problems faced by India such as need of clean water, waste management, creation
of Smart vehicles and Smart Communication, and so on. The 5 days Hardware
edition Grand Finale will include 3 judging rounds and an additional power
judging round where top teams will be judged by industry experts and angel
investors. The top 3 winning teams under each theme will stand to win cash
prizes – Rs 1,00,000/- to Winning team, Rs 75,000/- to First Runner up team and
Rs 50,000/- to Second Runner up team. They may also get support from investors
who are willing to invest in the products and make them market ready. Ministry
of HRD is working closely with Dept. of Science and Technology to explore the
possibility of handholding the winning teams into becoming startups with the
support from Technology Business incubators. Smart India Hackathon 2018 is
proving to be an important vehicle for converting innovative ideas from
technical students into Start up initiatives. This is in line with the ‘Make in
India’ initiative announced by Honorable Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi.
The Chief Guest on this occasion was Prof. S S Patnaik, Director
NITTTR.
In his inaugural address he motivated the participating teams by sharing his
five mantras of success i.e. always to have faith in oneself, to have a good
vision, to think good, to act good and to spread goodness. While welcoming
the chief guest Prof. R. K. Sinha, Director CSIO said that as a country of 1.25
billion people, the responsibility for sustainable development lies on the
shoulder of the scientific community of our nation to develop technologies and
products for the benefit of the masses. Such affordable technologies must
include grass-root innovation and out-of-box thinking by young minds to tap
their immense intellectual acumen into useful ideas and technological
leads. Similarly, digital technology and modern communication systems
have emerged as a game-changer in delivering cutting-edge technological
solutions for societal and industrial applications. As envisaged by our
Honorable Prime Minister, the mission of ‘Digital India’ is an attempt to
bridge the digital divide in our country and to promote digital literacy for
sustainable development. Smart India Hackathon is an initiative in that
direction to encourage young students to inculcate out-of-box thinking and to
harness the power of digital techniques for developing affordable products and
technologies.

Hon’ble Minister of HRD, Govt. of India who graced the occasion through video
conferencing encouraged the students to put in their best effort so that the
country can benefit from the innovative ideas that they realize using the
infrastructure made available to them through this unique initiative. Besides
this Shri K K Sharma, Hon’ble Secretary, Ministry of HRD, Prof. Anil
Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE, Dr. Anand Deshpande, Chairman and MD, Persistent
Systems, Shri. R Subrahmanyam, Additional Secretary MHRD, Dr. Vinay
Sahasrabuddhe, Director General, Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini, Arun Jamkar,
President, i4C and Dr. Abhay Jere, Secretary, Organizing Committee, Smart India
Hackathon 2018 were also contributing through video conferencing. CSIO will
provide the help and infrastructure to the participating teams to turn their
dreams into reality. Development of technologies for Biomedical instruments is
one of the focus area of research in CSIO. The Biomedical group of CSIO is
working towards research, design & development of futuristic medical
devices for diagnostic, therapeutic, prosthetic & assistive devices for
rehabilitation and orthopedic implants. Besides R&D, on-site and in-house
test/calibration services for medical instruments are also being provided to the
valued customers through ISO 9001-2000 certified national calibration facility
established at Delhi Centre. At present, R&D activities of the group are
focused towards providing technological Solutions for Solid Tumour Targeting
using Peptides & Plasmonic Photo-Thermal Technique, Exoskeleton devices
(ExoD), Intelligent Patient Movement Aids, Automation of Surgical Processes,
Design & Development of State-of-the-art patient specific Orthopedic
Implants, Postural Stability Assessment System, Biomechatronic Rehabilitative
Solutions and Virtual Intelligence based Rehabilitation System. The group has
expertise in many areas specific to medical instrumentation such as Signal
Processing, Electronic Design & Instrumentation, Electronic Control,
Mechanical Design & Fabrication, CAD Modeling, FEA, Biomechanics & Gait
Analysis, Medical Robotics, Machine Vision, Image Processing, Machine Learning
& Soft-computing, Orthopedic Implant Design & Manufacturing, Heat
Transfer & Thermal Therapeutics , Diagnostic instruments. State of the art
facilities such as GAIT Lab; CARE Lab;Metal 3D Printing Lab; Plastic 3D
Printing; Force Measurement System; CAD Modeling & Analysis(using Autodesk
Inventor, ANSYS, ADAMS, MIMICS, FE-Safe, ABAQUS, Magics, Simpleware Scan-IP,
Anybody etc.), Contact Angle Measurement, Shot-Peening Machine, Wire-cut EDM,
Heat Treatment etc will also be made available to the participating teams. The
