   As Diwali is round the corner, the wait for the much awaited shopping festival of the region is over, as Confederation of Indian Industry’s flagship event CII Chandigarh Fair 2018 is all set to commence today (26 October 2018) at Parade Ground, Sector 17 Chandigarh. To be formally inaugurated by Shri V P Singh Badnore, Hon’ble Governor, Punjab & Administrator, U T Chandigarh the fair is all set to capture the nerve of family shoppers with large focus on interesting deals & discounts, Diwali gifts, lucky draws and much more. The four-day fair would host 200 exhibitors in 13 concurrent shows, including real estate, auto, home décor, kitchenware, consumer durables, finmart, international arcade, and many more. The fair will showcase a variety of products to choose from countries like Afghanistan and Thailand, besides finest products and consumer durables, glitzy gizmos of domestic and global top brands.
 Giving details about the Fair, Mr Ankur Singh Chauhan, Regional Director, CII NR, shared that, “Established as the sturdiest platform to bridge the gap between business community and civil society, the fair is eagerly awaited by lakhs of people who postpone all their Diwali shopping needs till the fair. As per PCCTU directive, teachers’ union of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, sector 26 observed two hours on campus strike on 25th October,18 from 11:00 am. To 1:00pm. In support of teachers’ long standing demands. The president, secretary and the treasurer addressed the members and discussed the future course of action to be taken. They also planned for the national convention to be held on 29th October, 2018.

Students of the ‘Heritage, History and Culture Society of GGDSD College Kheri Gurna, Banur took part in the exhibition organised by the cooperation department of Punjab at Lapat Rai Bhawan, Chandigarh . The handmade products anufactured by the college students were displayed and sold there. Many self help groups from Ludhiana, Patiala, Rajpura etc. participated in this exhibition. College Principal Dr. Sunil Kumar Baria also visited the exhibition to motivate the students.  He said that in current scenario when our young generation is facing unemployment at large, it is important that students should be self dependent. Coordinator of Heritage, History and Culture Society of the college Dr. Lakhwinder Kaur said that through this process the students have been associated with their heritage as well as they are becoming self reliant . The cooperative officials said that this is the first occasion when students of any college have participated in this exhibition. Phulkari, Bagh, Pakihi cushions and other handmade products were the main attraction of the exhibition.
