Scholarship Award Function held at PU

Dr. Satinder Sartaaj, noted Sufi Singer and
Dr. Irshad Kamil, famous lyricists from Bollywood, both distinguished PU Alumni
graced the Scholarship Award Function organized by Panjab University Alumni
Association, here today.
Dr.
Kamil felt nostalgic about being in his alma mater, PU and in his address
expressed that it is a great feeling to be back home. He said that this is a
function of connectivity which gives opportunity to meet all and expressed his
gratitude to the University for making him what he is today. International
Brand Ambassador of PU, Dr. Sartaaj, felt himself at home and said, “Art and
Culture is a way to create bond and harmony between individuals, and recognize
themselves.” Dr. Sartaaj referring to PU as his ‘Mecca’, urged the youth
to take the culture further to next generation. He was happy regarding PU
introducing Shahmukhi course from next session.
Emphasizing
upon the importance of alumni association with the University, Prof. Dr. Arun
Kumar Grover marked the 99 years of conception of PU at Lahore
in 2017-18 and said, “Alumni connectivity with old and young is important to
extend, examine and create the frontier of knowledge.” He informed that next
year will commemorate the centenary of Honors School of PU along with that of Prof.
R.C. Paul, who stayed as Vice Chancellor for a period of 10 years. A stamp
would be released on the occasion, he added.
Prof
Monga informed that the scholarship Award Function was started in the year
2003. This is the 15th Award Function. This year 67 scholarships are being
awarded out which, 30 are for affiliated colleges of PU and 37 for PU students,
informed Prof Monga. The toppers are being paid a scholarship of Rs. 10,000/-
along with a Certificate of Merit and Trophy for Academic Excellence.
All the graduate and post-graduate toppers have also been conferred with
the honorary life membership of PUAA by incurring expenditure of Rs.1000/-
for each from its own funds. Apart from this 16 stipends are also
being given, he added.
