University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), PU, Chandigarh organized one day event on Nanochemistry ,here today funded by the Nano Organizers of Govt of Karnataka S&T Bangalore India.  The program was inaugurated by Professor A K Grover, former Vice Chancellor Panjab University. Professor Kanwaljit Chopra welcomed all participants. Professor Ashok K Ganguli Head, Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi 110016, INDIA delivered the inaugural lecture. The  sessions included  video show, experimental demonstrations by Professor Uday Maitra, IISc, Bangalore, quiz by Dr Neelima Dhingra, UIPS, lecture and exhibition. The technical lectures covered   diverse aspects of Nano including applications by Dr Sheet from IISER Mohali and Professor Bhalla from CSIR IMTECH covering success stories & career opportunities in Nano. Dr Anurag Kuhad, Local coordinator of the event informed that 162 meritorious science students (class XI/XII) from 09 schools of Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh participated in the above mentioned program. Jawahar Navodaya Vidylaya students won the quiz competition. Dr Sangeeta P Sah and Dr Neelima Dhingra, UIPS coordinated all the activities. In the  valedictory function student’s feedback, mementos, prize and certificate distribution to all Panjab University mentors, students, escort teachers, volunteer and staff of Panjab University was organised .

The Central Detective Training Institute (CDTI) organized a training workshop for students of Centre for Police Administratio, Panjab University ,Chandigarh. Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Chairperson Police Administration and Dr. L. S. Rana, Faculty, CDTI organized various sessions of training workshop. The workshop has focused on theoretical as well practical aspects of the forensic science and investigation procedures. Dr. Rana, and DSP Nand Kishore  recreated the scene of crime (Rape, Ballistics, Road accidents) and demonstrated procedure of investigation to students. The workshop concluded with the interaction of Sh. Ramesh Kumar DSP CDTI, with students and vote of thanks by Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Chairperson, Police Administration. 5 faculty members/ research scholars and 45 students participated in the workshop.

कॉर्डिनेशन कमेटी ऑफ गवर्नमेंट एंड एम.सी इंपलाइज एंड वर्कर्स यू टी चंडीगढ़ की मीटिंग शांतिकुंज सेक्टर 16 में हुई l जिसमें कॉर्डिनेशन कमेटी से संबंधित यूनियनो ने भाग लिया l जिसमें 5 दिसंबर को कॉर्डिनेशन कमेटी द्वारा रखी गई कंवेंशन के बारे में चर्चा हुई श्री अश्वनी कुमार कनवीनर कॉर्डिनेशन कमेटी ने संबोधित करते हुए कहा की चंडीगढ़ प्रशासन के कहने पर कॉर्डिनेशन कमेटी ने 26 सितंबर की हड़ताल को स्थगित कर दिया था l चंडीगढ़ प्रशासन ने वादा किया था, के 17 अक्टूबर को कॉर्डिनेशन कमेटी की लीडरशिप से मांगो के ऊपर चर्चा होगी l पर चंडीगढ़ प्रशासन ने बिना किसी कारण 17 अक्टूबर को होने वाली मीटिंग  स्थगित कर दी और अभी तक कोई भी मीटिंग कॉर्डिनशन कमेटी के साथ नहीं रखी जिस कारण मुलाजिम वग् में बहुत रोष है l इसीलिए 5 दिसंबर को होने वाली कंवेंशन में चंडीगढ़ प्रशासन विरुद्ध अगला प्रोग्राम किया जाएगा l मुलाजिम की मुख्य मांगे कांट्रेक्ट और आउटसोरस वर्करों की सुरक्षित पॉलिसी बनाइ जाए, मृतक के वारिसो को नौकरी दी जाए l सेंट्रल रूल सेंट्रल पे स्केल दिया जाए l खाली पोस्टें जल्द भरी जाए l गांव के पंचायतों में काम करने वाले डेली वेज कर्मचारियों को बेसिक पे प्लस डीए दिया जाए l कारपोरेशन में काम करने वाले मुलाजिमो के रुलो में संशोधन किया जाए l  स्कूलो में काम करने वाले चौकीदारो के 8 घंटे निश्चित की है जाए l

A week long national workshop on “Continuum Mechanics: Principles and Applications” from November 19-24, 2018 was inaugurated today at the Department of Mathematics, Panjab University Chandigarh by Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, PU . PU VC in his address, shared his experiences about mathematics and motivated the participants towards the importance of this subject in every field of research. Prof. Ramesh Chander, a retired Professor from IIT Roorkee was the chief guest, who emphasized the application of mathematics in various fields of sciences. He made a clear cut explanation of mathematics through continuum mechanics in the field of seismology.  Prof. Gurmeet Kaur, Chairperson talked about the department. Prof. S K Tomar told that the main aim of the workshop is to train the new buddies in the field of Continuum mechanics being one of the important branches of Mathematics, which has wide applications in the field of Engineering and Technology. Eminent speakers, namely, Professor Peeyush Chandra (IIT Kanpur), Prof. A K Nandkumaran (IISc, Bangalore), Prof. P G Siddheshwar (Bangalore University) and Prof. M D Sharma (K U Kurukshetra) will be lecturing on different issues of Continuum mechanics. This workshop is fully sponsored by National Center of Mathematics (a joint venture of IIT Bombay and TIFR Mumbai). Around 50 participants across nation are attending this workshop. Dr. Dilbag Singh a UGC-Assistant Professor is the convener of this workshop.

Department of Physics, PU No.#1 In the Global Rankings, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh has been ranked as the best University of the country and 3rd amongst best institutions of India, according to the US News and World Report Rankings 2019. Apart from this, Department of Physics, PU is ranked No. 1 in India. 1250 top Universities Globally have been included in this ranking and PU has global score of 44.5 with Global Rank of #551 way ahead of various peer Universities of India. The next university, after PU, is AMU which stands at #9. After that DU, BHU and Jadavpur are at #10, 12, 13 respectively. Followed by Pune, Hyderabad and JNU at #15, 16 and 17 respectively. The Rankings provide insight into how Universities compare globally. Since an increasing number of students plan to enrol in Universities outside of their own country, the Best Global Universities Ranking- which focus specifically on Academic Research and Reputation overall- can held those applicants to compare institutions around the world. The Rankings are based on 15 indicators which includes Global Research Reputation (12.5%), Regional Research Reputation (12.5%), Publications (10%), Books (2.5%), Conferences (2.5%), Normalized citation impact (10%), Total Citations (7.5%), Number of publications that are among the 10% most cited (12.5%), Percentage of total publications that are among the 10% most cited (10%), International collaboration (5%), Percentage of Total Publications with International collaborations (5%), Number of highly cited papers that are among the top 1 percent most cited in their respective field (5%) and Percentage of total publications that are among the top 1 percent most highly cited papers (5%). Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, PU congratulated the students, research scholars, teachers and staff for improving on global platform. He said that the Academic Research of PU has been commendable and all concerted steps would be taken to take PU to greater heights. Prof. Rajeev Puri, Officating Chairperson, Department of Physics, PU showed gratitude towards students, researchers and the faculty for all the cooperation and team work for taking  the department number 1 place in the country. Prof. M Rajivlochan, Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, PU said that this ranking which gives value to research and underplace the entirely subjective views about a University, results in PU getting a high rank.

As part of Road Safety Festomania - 2018, a workshop on Road Safety was organized in Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh on November 19, 2018. The students were educated on the importance of following the traffic rules not only to avoid penalties but for the sake of their own and others’ safety.  The resource person, Ms. Parul from Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd., explained the various reasons of road accidents and stressed on the need to observe traffic rules in order to reduce the number of casualties on the road. It has been statistically shown that during the past 5 years the number of fatalities and injuries associated with road accidents are steadily increasing, which is largely due to ignorance of safety measures and non- adherence to traffic rules. Some effective measures of road safety such as  the use of good quality of helmets, wearing of seat belts, the right use of indicators, defensive driving according to weather and road conditions, use of vehicle lights & mirrors, maintaining speed limits, understanding the traffic lights & signals, etc. were emphasized. The students participated with enthusiasm in activities such as slow riding and slalom. 10 finalists were selected from among the participants for the final event to be held on November 24, 2018.

Chandigarh celebrated the third event of the State Level Kala Utsav-2018, Painting Competition today at Govt. Girls Model Senior Secondary School, Sector-18 ChdVarious Govt. /Govt. Aided /Private Schools participated with full enthusiasm and vigor. The Judges for the event were Mr. Amarbir Singh, Assit. Prof. Arts College; Mrs. Purnima, Associate Prof., Arts College and Mr. Lakhwinder Singh, Assit Prof. Arts College. The Judges critically evaluated each and every painting as per the guidelines specified by MHRD/NCERT. The aim of the event was to help the students to explore, understand and display their artistic talents which further gives them an opportunity to understand and celebrate cultural diversity at school, district, state and national level. On the basis of the judgment in the male category, Sanjay of GMSSS 56 secured the 1st position; Shehzad Ali of GMSSS-MHC secured the 2nd position and Shivbir of GMHS-RC 1 Dhanas secured the 3rd position. In the Female category Shilpa of GMSSS- 39 secured the 1st position; Ambika of GMHS- Manimajra secured the 2nd position and Jaspreet Kaur of GMHS- 26 PL secured the 3rd position. Smt. Saroj Mittal, Dy. Director School Education; Smt. Alka Mehta, Assistant Director Adult Education and Mission Coordinator Samagra Shiksha; Mrs. Neeta Sandhu Principal cum Cluster Head, GMSSS-16; Mrs. Raj Bala, Principal cum Cluster Head, GGMSSS- 18 and  Mrs. Rajni Mahajan, Pedagogy Coordinator, the CRCs and other officials of Education Department were present during the function.
