The International Day of Light is a global initiative by UNESCO that provides a platform for the continued appreciation of light and the role it plays in science, culture and art, education and sustainable development, and in fields as diverse as medicine, communications and energy.
     CSIO today organized a Light Festival “Learning with Light” to Celebrate International Day of Light. Over 500 students from various schools of Chandigarh participated in this event. Opening Remarks were given by Dr. Samir K. Mondal, HoD Photonics Division and then he introduced Prof. R. K. Sinha, Director CSIO as Chief Guest and invited him to give a popular talk on “Learning with Light”.
      Prof. R. K. Sinha won the hearts of all the young children by explaining to them the principles and nature of light in very interesting and easy to understand way. He stated with the very basics and then went on to explain the different theories of light not only from the textbook perspective but also by citing examples from practical everyday life. He also gave a glimpse of activities of CSIO in the field of optics and revealed the future plans of CSIO in the field of photonics. He said that the International Day of Light will contribute to build new bridges between scientific disciplines, education and the art, responding to the critical need for interdisciplinary science, and improved dialogue between citizens, scientists, decision makers, industry leaders and non-governmental organisations.
         Dr. Navneet Singh Aulakh, Senior Scientist, CSIO and his team of volunteers then took the students around to see various experiments using lasers, mirrors, lenses to give practical exposure to the students. Different quizzes, games and competitions on the theme of light were also conducted and the students of Saupins, GHS Sector 30, GHS Sector 29 and Kendriya Vidyala won on the spot prizes

Since its very inception, Stepping Stones International has been organizing events, to promote parent participation in their child’s learning process. In addition,these events help to strengthen the bond between parents and school in an informal setting.
        This year’s event was geared towards celebrating‘Mother’s Day’, wherein all parents were to dressin the Retro Style as per the Retro theme of the day.
Parents came, bringing forth with them, the fashion trends of the 50’s up to 70’s, giving authenticity and pizazz to the event.  They also participated in several activities that were organized. Everyone appreciated and enjoyed the ramp walk. The childrensurely would have been overjoyed to see their parents from a different perspective.
     Highlight of the day was when students’ display of love for their parents in videos were showcased to the parents.They highly appreciated the efforts and were emotionally touched by the thoughts of their children and staff. The parents painted white t - shirts provided to them, with beautiful images and hand prints with loving messages for their wards. The tradition of sharing values and developing emotional connect between the parents, children and the school has always been the endeavor of Stepping Stones International and such events go a long way in this regard.

As per the guidelines of Directorate of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, New Delhi; the Malaria Wing of Health Department, UT-Chandigarh today organized National Dengue Day-2018. The aim of this day is to control dengue through creating awareness, initiate preventive actions and control till transmission season is over. The following activities were carried out:-
1. Sensitization of School Teachers A training programme for school teacher’s of Government and Private Schools was organized for prevention and control of vector & water borne diseases at SIHFW, GMSH-16, Chandigarh to mark National Dengue Day which will be continued in four batches. A total of 200 teachers will be sensitized 
Dr. Vandana Gupta, Medical Superintendent, GMSH-16 chaired the session. In her inaugural speech she outlined the role of School Teacher’s in relation to Vector & Water Borne Diseases.
1. Pledge for prevention and control of Dengue: A pledge was admistered at various Public Health institutions including blood bank where SMO’s/ MO’s, Paramedical staff and patients were involved.
Malaria Staff of all units, took pledge to work towards prevention and Control of Dengue.
3.  Organising awareness Rallies: Various awareness rallies at 25 malaria field units were organized by the malaria workers where they visited houses for creating awareness and distribution of IEC material. 
4.  Involvement of Police Forces: An awareness camp was organized to sensitize the police forces and their families at Police Hospital Sector-26, Chandigarh. A lecture was delivered by Dr. U.J.S Gill, Assistant Director Malaria wherein emphasis was laid on the personal protection measures along with control strategies for prevention of Dengue 
5.  Involvement of Govt. & Private Schools: Awareness camps/ rallies were organized by the school students and teachers in collaboration with NVBDCP staff for educating the masses to take preventive steps for prevention and control of Dengue and take protective measures from mosquito bites.  During the prayer meeting students and teachers of educational institutions took oath.
6.  Field surveillance: Breeding points i.e. coolers, haudi’s, over head tanks were also checked by the malaria staff along with announcements on mega phone.
7.  Vector Control Activities: Extensive spraying and fogging was done at vulnerable locations throughout the city.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ajay Kumar Mittal, Hon’ble the Acting Chief Justice, High Court of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh, has initiated a number of welfare measures for the Litigants, Public, Staff members, Advocates and other Stake-holders of the Justice Delivery System. The matter is being taken up with the Municipal Corporation, U.T. Chandigarh for installation of Automated Mobile Water Vending Machines (E-water ATMs)  at various locations in the  premises of the High Court, so that  the public get hygienic drinking water. 
       The Transport Departments of Punjab, Haryana and U.T. Chandigarh are being asked to start the special buses at the appropriate time, so that the staff of the High Court from the surrounding areas like, Zirakpur, Mohali, Kharar, Panchkula and some far away Sectors of Chandigarh may commute on the said buses. The step has been taken to decongest  the parking area as well as to reduce the pollution. Hon’ble the Acting Chief Justice has directed all the staff members to observe punctuality, so that litigants/public do not face any inconvenience. 

      Today, the Registrar (Administration) and O.S.D. (Gaz-II) conducted the surprise checking of the various branches of the High Court, on the directions of Hon’ble the Acting Chief Justice, to check the punctuality of the officials. A few officials who came a little late or were not sitting on their seats,  have been warned to be careful in future.   The Sanitation Wing of the High Court has been directed to ensure proper cleanliness of the premises.

A workshop on City Consultation for Tri-City (Mohali-Chandigarh-Panchkula) with the agenda of “Air Quality Management in Indian Cities Bridging the Knowledge Gap” was organised today at Hotel Lalit, IT Park, Chandigarh by Clean Air Asia and Department of Environment UT Chandigarh and supported by Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation. 
      The first session of the day tried to assess the data on air quality for Chandigarh city. This was done through two presentations. The first was made by Dr. Vasundhara Bhojvaid, India Program Manger (Air Quality), Clean Air Asia. The presentation shared the results of the Clean Air Scorecard Tool (CAST) that was developed by Clean Air Asia. The tool assess air quality management along three axes: air pollution and health index; Clean Air Management Capacity Index and Clean Air Policies and Action Index. Chandigarh is a 'developing city' with regard to air quality management and there is room for improvement. 
      The second presentation was delivered by Mr. Vivek Pandey, Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee. He shared the status of air quality in the city and showed that PM10 is the pollutant of concern in the city and above the national ambient air quality standards. As early as January 2018 in one monitoring station in the city. The inaugural session had a welcome address by Mr. Santosh Kumar, IAS, Director Environment, UT Chandigarh. Ms. Prarthana Borah, India Director, Clean Air Asia gave a setting the context presentation wherein she talked about the work that Clean Air Asia is doing across cities in India such as Dehradun, Bhubaneshwar, Guwahati amongst others and now Chandigarh to work with city administrations to build capacity and provide technical guidance and support for making air action plans in these cities. The approach is to study a city, partner with the city government, and aid in policy development and implementation for better air quality management. 
        The chief guest during the workshop , Mr. Anurag Agarwal, IAS, Home Secretary-cum-Secretary Environment , UT Chandigarh, expressed the importance of working on improving air quality in Chandigarh and how the liveability index under the smart cities must incorporate air quality improvements for making a city sustainable and smart. He stressed the need was to act now before it was too late for Chandigarh city. The pre-lunch panel was a means to share best practices across Indian cities for better air quality management. The two cities discussed on the panel were Bhubaneshwar and Chandigarh. Both cities made sense as they are both planned cities, planned by the same administrator, Le Corbusier. Bhubaneshwar shared its experiences and policies for air quality management with Chandigarh.
     The workshop concluded with the last panel of the day covering issues of outreach, health and waste management for air quality management and how it can be integrated for Chandigarh.

चंडीगढ़ में गर्मी ने अभी अपने पैर पसारने शुरु ही किए हैं, और लोगों को पीने के पानी की दिक्कत आनी शुरु हो गई है, तो आने वाले दिनों में पानी की सप्लाई के हालात क्या होगा ये सब लोग जानते ही हैं l ये किल्लत शहर ही नही बल्कि गाँव तक फैली हुयी है l  चंडीगढ़ के निवासी आजकल लम्बे समय तक पानी न आने पर एक-एक बूंद के लिए तरस रहे हैं ।इतनी गर्मी पड़ रही है और हजारों लोग पानी के बिना बेहाल-परेसान है महिलाएं दूर-दूर से पानी भरने को मजबूर हैं पिछले कई दिनों से पानी की आपूर्ति बिल्कुल ठप्प सी पड़ी हुई है ।

         चंडीगढ़ में पानी की बूंद - बूंद के लिए हाहाकार मचा हुआ है l लोग नहाने के लिए, पीने के लिए, अपने घर की साफ - सफाई के लिए, पानी - पिने के लिए तरस रहे हैं, चिल्ला रहे हैं, रो रहे हैं, जगह - जगह लोग खाली बाल्टियां व बर्तन लेकर पार्षद और निगम अधिकारियों और प्रशासन के खिलाफ धरना - प्रदर्शन व जोरदार नारेबाजी लगा रहे है l लेकिन प्रशासन का एक ही जवाब होता है कि पानी की किल्लत है, धैर्य रखो, सहन करो पानी की कमी है पानी आ ही नहीं रहा l पानी की मेंटेनेंस चल रही है अर्थात तरह - तरह के बहाने प्रशासन व नगर - निगम लगाता रहता है l वहीं चंडीगढ़ निवासी जगदीश गुप्ता ने आज ये नजारा अपने कैमरे में कैद कर लिया , 

जब  हजारों गैलन पानी पुलिस लाइन सेक्टर 26 की बाउंड्रीवॉल के साथ लगते पाइप-लाइन से लगातार बह रहा था, बर्बाद हो रहा था l एसा लग रहा था कि चंडीगढ़ में पानी का फालतू एक्सेस एक्स्ट्रा हो चुका है, क्या ये पानी की बर्बादी नही हैl 
     एक तरफ तो प्रशासन शहर मैं अगर कोई निवासी अपनी कार या स्कूटर को धोता नज़र आये तो उसके पानी की बर्बादी कहकर उसके खिलाफ चालान कर देता है केस रजिस्टर कर देता है l क्या प्रशासन अब इस पानी की बर्बादी को लेकर अपने ही अधिकारियों के खिलाफ केस  दर्ज करेगा l क्या ये सरकार की नाकामी नही है l सरकार और नगर निगम दोनों को ही जवाब देना होगा l 
कब होगा लोगों के पानी आपूर्ति की समस्या का हल , केसे दूर होगी समस्या l नगरवासियों को इनके जवाब का रहेगा इन्जार  l
