A Workshop to create awareness about menstrual
hygiene was organised for the residents and staff of Girls Hostel
No. 10 (Neerja Bhanot Hall) at Panjab University. Dr. Gaurav Gaur,
NSS programme officer with his team of NSS volunteers’ oriented participants
about the myths, practices, physiological and sociological aspects related to
menstrual cycles in females. Stressing on the Swacch Bharat mission, Dr. Archana
Chauhan, Warden of the hostel no. 10, oriented the participants
about the usage of sanitary pad vending machines and sanitary pad incinerator installed
in the hostel. She also impressed upon the proper and safe disposal
of Sanitary Pads to avoid infections due to biological waste
generated in the hostels. Prof. Neena Capalash, Dean Student Welfare (Women)
explained the importance of healthy balanced diet and avoiding
junk/oily food during menstruation. The faculty members from Panjab
University, Wardens from various hostels and NSS programme officers attended
the event. The workshop was made interactive and informative with
multimedia presentation and debate on various physiological and
psychological issues faced by students during the menstrual cycle.
