Department celebrated "Forest Festival 2020, tree planting ceremony" in Chandigarh

The word “Vana Mahotsav” refers to “tree-plantation ceremony”, which is celebrated
every year, in the month of July, to inculcate among the general public the
need for growing trees and nurturing them. Due to COVID pandemic situation
prevailing in the entire country, no major ceremonial plantation was done to
avoid possible crowding by the public. However, to sensitize the citizens
regarding the importance of tree plantation, Vanmahotsav-2020 has been
launched on 10th July 2020 by planting tree saplings at Forest Area
on I.T. Park Road between Railway Light Point to Kishangarh village chowk under
Manimajra beat in association with Central Reserve Police Force, Chandigarh.
Sh. Debendra Dalai, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests, UT Chandigarh in the
presence of Sh. Randeep Sharma, Commandant, CRPF Campus, and Dr. Abdul Qayum,
IFS, DCF, and personnel of CRPF and Forest Department, UT Chandigarh planted
forestry saplings. On this occasion, Sh. Debendra Dalai, IFS, CCF, UT
Chandigarh also flagged off a Vehicle designed for free
distribution of saplings by Forest Department, Chandigarh titled “वन विभाग
आपके द्वार” (Forest Department
at your Door Steps) during the monsoon season in UT Chandigarh. Three Vehicles
are designed for free distribution of saplings. The timing of the distribution
of plants/saplings door-to-door by Forest Department, UT Chandigarh is
from (10/07/2020 to 31/07/2020 09:00 AM to 06:00 PM). One can receive up
to 05 plants from the department for his/her choice of species without any
charges through this moving vehicle. The initiative has been taken to encourage

Debendra Dalai, Chandigarh informed that “Greening Chandigarh Action Plan
2020-21” was released on 05th June 2020 by Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore,
Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & the Administrator, UT Chandigarh in the
presence of Sh. Manoj Parida, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator & Sh. Arun
Kumar Gupta, IAS, Principal Secretary (Forests), UT Chandigarh wherein plantation
targets of various departments/ agencies and the strategies to achieve the
desired results has been chalked out. During this year 1,50,000 saplings
will be planted in a phased manner on government and available private land
and 70,000 saplings are being distributed by the Forest Department free
of cost to the citizens of Chandigarh.
