32 Schools of tricity Joined at WIPRO-Yuvsatta ‘earthian Teachers Training Programme’

Eco-club incharge teachers from 32 prominent Schools of the city joined at St. Stephen’s School, Sector 45, for a ‘earthian Teachers Training Programme’, organized jointly by WIPRO & Yuvsatta-an NGO. Mr. TC Nautiyal, Conservator of Forests, Chandigarh Administration was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Prominent amongst those who participated included Ashish Shah from WIPRO earthian, Louis Lopez, Principal of St. Stephen’s School and Pramod Sharma, Coordinator, Yuvsatta.
Giving information about the initiative Mr. Ashish Shah of WIPRO shared that WIPRO’s ‘earthian’ programme invites submissions from schools on issues of water and biodiversity. And the 10 best winning submissions from schools across the country are chosen by an eminent jury and will receive a cash award of Rs.1,00,000/- from Mr. Azim Premji himself at a gala ceremony organized in Bangalore during the first week of February every year. The award is followed by a Continuous engagement Program with school teachers and students from winning schools to build and increase the space given to sustainability thinking and action in schools.
Appreciating the ‘earthian’ programme the Chief Guest TC Nautiyal said that active and vibrant Eco clubs in Schools play an important role in creating environmental awareness amongst the future generation. Infact young Students can be powerful advocates for the conservation of natural resources like water and limiting waste, especially the polthene bags pollution. The attitudes thus developed will stay with pupils throughout their lives. This way students will also have greater respect for, and take more care of, other environments they encounter.
In his vote of thanks Louis Lopez the School Principal shared about the Eco Club activities of his School and it’s vision of 'Think globally, act locally’. On the occasion they presented cloth bags made by their primary class students and also herbal plants to all participating teachers. In the end Pramod Sharma, Coordinator, Yuvsatta presented a set of books by Mahatma Gandhi for School library.
