The
M.Sc. (Hons. School) in Physics batch mates of Prof. A.K. Grover, Vice
Chancellor Panjab University, Chandigarh organized their 3 rd Alumni Meet which
is also the 50 th Anniversary of their entry in July 1968 to B.Sc. (Hons
School) of Physics. The meet was organized on 14 th and 15 th July, 2018 in
the Alumni House, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The meet was ended by 29
classmates along with spouses of the 13 classmates. The batch mates of the Vice
Chancellor included, apart from colleagues from Panjab University and PEC, top
financial experts, Senior retired bureaucrats and technocrats, broadcasters,
film maker and script writers, entrepreneurs, persons engaged in charity etc. One of the alumni, who
is an entrepreneurs specially came from USA to attend the meeting.
The alumni had a brief session in the parent
department where Prof. Arun Grover explained the role played by Prof. B.M.
Anand in setting up the present department as well as creating world class
facility in the field of Nuclear Emulsions. Prof. Grover also delved on the
genesis of the ‘Honours School’ system established in 1919. Prof. Grover also
emphasized the role played by Dewan Anand Kumar in establishing the present
campus of Panjab University. The session also included an excursion of the city
and ended with a dinner in the Alumni House.
The 15 th morning
started with ‘Panchkosh Meditation’ which is part of Art of Living as well as a
brief session of laughter yoga. This was followed by a visit to the famous
Yadvindra Gardens at Pinjore. After visiting the garden, the alumni had a
sumptuous lunch at the Haryana Tourism Restaurant, thoroughly enjoyed by
everyone. The programme ended with tea in the Alumni House at 4:00 p.m.
All the alumni were extremely happy with the
arrangements at the Alumni House and also appreciated the services rendered by
the staff. Many of the classmates who could not attend the meeting conveyed
their good wishes for the same. Prof. Ajay Sood, FRS, specially conveyed his
good wishes and regard. The meet ended by resolving to hold the next meet in
Nov, 2020 and also resolved to make a collective donation to Panjab University
Alumni Fund.
