Workshop at
Department of Mathematics, PU
Chandigarh
A week long national workshop on “Continuum
Mechanics: Principles and Applications” from November 19-24, 2018
was inaugurated today at the Department of Mathematics, Panjab
University Chandigarh by Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, PU . PU
VC in his address, shared his experiences about mathematics and motivated the
participants towards the importance of this subject in every field of research.
Prof. Ramesh Chander, a retired Professor from IIT Roorkee was the chief guest, who
emphasized the application of mathematics in various fields of sciences. He
made a clear cut explanation of mathematics through continuum
mechanics in the field of seismology. Prof. Gurmeet Kaur, Chairperson talked about
the department. Prof. S K Tomar told that the main aim of the workshop is to train the new
buddies in the field of Continuum mechanics being one of the
important branches of Mathematics, which has wide applications in
the field of Engineering and Technology. Eminent speakers, namely,
Professor Peeyush Chandra (IIT Kanpur), Prof. A K Nandkumaran
(IISc, Bangalore), Prof. P G Siddheshwar (Bangalore University) and Prof. M D
Sharma (K U Kurukshetra) will be lecturing on different issues of Continuum mechanics.
