PUCA Urges Centre Govt. to release Punjab’s share of PMS Funds

Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA)
urged Centre Government to release the share of Punjab of Post Matric
Scholarship (PMS) so that SC students could continue with their studies. A
meeting of office bearers of PUCA under the leadership of President Dr. Anshu
Kataria was held recently to express the concern over non release of
Scholarship. Sh. Amit Sharma, Senior Vice President, PUCA while speaking
said that around 32% of the entire population belongs to the SC in Punjab and
around 9 lac SC Students are studying under the PMS Scheme. S. Gurfateh
Singh Gill, Vice President, PUCA said that a total of Rs 1,673.24 Crore is due
towards the Centre Government out of which for the year 2015-2016 a sum of Rs
328.72 crore and for the year 2016-2017 Rs 719.52 crore and for the Year
2017-18 Rs 625 Crore is due towards the Centre Government. CA, Manmohan
Garg, Finance Secretary, PUCA said that due to the non release of PMS funds,
more than hundreds of good colleges accounts have been declared as Non Performing
Assets (NPA) and banks have started the process for proceedings for taking
possession and Auction. S. Gurpreet Singh, General Secretary, PUCA said
that how a College can offer free studies to a student when Government
has not released funds for last 2-3 years
