While Chandigarh Congress Lok Sabha candidate, Pawan Kumar Bansal acquainted the Sector 56 residents with the way Chandigarh’s development took a nosedive under BJP’s misrule, Bhupendra Singh Hooda, two-time Chief Minister of Haryana, who arrived here to campaign for him, said, “Instead of an actor who you can see only in a movie, a dream or during elections, vote for a man who’s easily accessible, courageous, hard-working and believes in working for the welfare of his people.” While addressing at a massive rally at Chandigarh’s Sector 56 (Palsora), Hooda said, “People of Chandigarh have seen Bansal’s work during his previous tenures as MP. He would yet again win with great margin from Chandigarh and on 19th, Chandigarh voters will themselves give a befitting reply to Kirron Kher for her non-performance.” Blasting Modi government, Hooda remarked that our PM made 5 crore people in India jobless the day he announced demonetization. “Someone ask him as to why doesn’t he now talk about his promise of providing the youth with 2 crore jobs now? This government even drowned our farmers under heavy loans and forced a lot of people to close their businesses after hasty implementation of faulty GST,” he added. Talking about the budget of Chandigarh having got reduced from Rs 813 crore under Bansal’s tenure to now Rs 401 crore under Kher’s rule, Hooda expressed shock and dismay. “This is for the first time that I am witnessing Chandigarh undergo such a reduction in its development budget. The population is on a rise, and the budget is on the downswing. In which direction is this government taking Chandigarh to?” He also took a jibe at PM Modi's false promise of crediting people's bank accounts with Rs 15 lakh saying, "Those of you who have actually received this amount, I would like to say that it is your duty to vote for BJP. But those, who haven't, must vote for Congress." “They talk as if they are the greatest nationalists. But have you ever heard of any leader of BJP who sacrificed his or her life for Indian Independence? or went to jail for country?” Also present at the occasion was Kuldeep Sharma, former Speaker, Haryana Vidhan Sabha who said that he has seen the changing face of Chandigarh, as he studied here for 10 years. “I’ve seen the kind of development that took place during Bansal ji’s tenure of 15 years but it’s highly shocking that a beautiful and a well-planned city like Chandigarh has been reduced to such a miserable state today, when there are no doctors in dispensaries, no principals in colleges, broken roads, no parking policy, not even enough teachers for schools.” Before Hooda’s speech, Bansal said that he’s deeply grateful to the former chief minister of Haryana to have come in support for him. He also reminded the public about the PM Modi’s rally in Chandigarh on May 14 saying, “Though PM Modi in his Chandigarh rally tried to make a connect with the citizens by saying that he has a strong relationship with the city, but I ask him if that is so, why neither him nor Kirron Kher couldn’t do anything for the development of Chandigarh.” “The truth is that PM Modi has nothing to say for either Chandigarh or its MP and that’s precisely why he didn’t even once mention Kirron Kher’s name in his speech. PM had time to roam around the world on public expenses but not for Chandigarh,” he added. Later, former Chief Minister of Haryana also visited Sector 40’s Ramleela Ground to address another rally where several BJP workers joined Congress in the presence of Pardeep Chhabra, the president of Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee, Pawan Kumar Bansal, Bhupinder Singh Badheri, Jagdish Singh Gora Kang among others.
