Navjot Singh Sidhu, Punjab Minister and Senior Congress leader today blasted the BJP, and gave an open challenge to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to debate over his ‘so called achievements’. Sidhu even said he would retire from politics if he failed in the debate. The Congress leader was speaking at a massive rally in Sector 22 here in support of the party Lok Sabha candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal. Making a good use of humour, sarcasm, poetry and one liners, Sidhu appealed to the people of Chandigarh to vote in favour of Bansal. He also encouraged the crowd to raise slogans like
Modi Sarkar, Abki Baar Bas Kar Yaar…. Ram naam ki loot hai
loot sake to loot, Teeno Modi bhaag Gaye, Bol Gaye Saab Jhooth…
He also said while America is finding life on Mars, our regressive government is making its citizens “chowkidar”. Bashing PM Narendra Modi he said our PM is very good at distracting people from real issues. He has stooped so low that they are now asking votes in the name of soldiers but be rest assured people in Varanasi are wishing your defeat now. His blows to BJP didn’t end here. He even criticised the government for adopting dictatorship and attempting to dissolve our institutions like CBI and judiciary. Paying his respect to Former union minister and Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Chandigarh Pawan Kumar Bansal, Sidhu said that Bansal is like his father and was the only candidate who can bring about a change in the city, which was evident from his previous performance as a four-time MP. He said while BJP was banking more on its false claims and promises, people of Chandigarh have seen the work done by Pawan Kumar Bansal and will vote for his work done.  Congress supporters and workers had gathered in large numbers at the Sector 22 ground here to listen to the leader, who is known to mesmerize the audience with the blunt and satiric style of delivery. The cricketer-turned politician hit out at Modi by listing achievements of the Congress governments in the past, stating that Modi himself had did nothing in all these five years and had only pushed public sector companies into losses. He said it was only during Congress that space programme was started and it was Rajiv Gandhi who had brought in technological revolution. Sidhu also took on Modi for favouring a few industrialists stating that he was the ‘chowkidar of a couple of industrialists’ and blamed the Prime Minister for seeking votes in the name of Army. He said while on one hand an industrialist was given the benefit of Rs 30,000 crore in the Rafale deal farmers are being sent to jail as loan defaulters. While giving an insight into BJP rule in Chandigarh, he said last five years have been a tenure of disappointment for people of Chandigarh. He said Kirron Kher spent more time in the film industry and wasn’t concerned about the demands of local people. Finally, Sidhu called upon public to stay united in the face of a divisive campaign being run by BJP and vote for Congress candidate from the city Pawan Kumar Bansal only. On this Bansal, said Sidhu’s support in the election campaign was immense and would further strengthen the party’s ongoing election campaign. “Already a lot of disappointed BJP leaders have joined Congress which has proved that Modi Wave in 2014 was nothing but a wave of lies. I am now thankful to Navjot Sidhu to have come forward and strengthening our campaign further,” Bansal said. On the occasion Pardeep Chhabra, president of local unit of Congress said that Navjot Sidhu is entire nation’s beloved leader and a big asset to Congress. We at Chandigarh are glad and grateful to him for coming over.”
