Iconic Week Celebrations with Vintage Car/ Bike Rally and Light & Sound Show

Banwarilal Purohit, Administrator Chandigarh declared the opening of ICONIC
WEEK (AZADI KA AMRUT MAHOTSAV-2022) celebrations by flagging off the vintage
car/ bike rally at Lake 42 today in the presence of Sh. Dharam Pal, Adviser to
the Administrator. This iconic week is being celebrated from 6th to 13th March
2022 under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, an initiative of the Government of
India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the
glorious history of its people, culture and achievements. Sh. Purohit said,
“Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav is a festival of awakening of the nation: a festival
of fulfilling the dream of good governance and the festival of global peace and
development.” The grand opening of the iconic week showcased series of events
like impressive performances by Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). The
Motorcyclists from ITBP showcased their skills leaving the audience thrilled.
These daredevil stunts received huge appreciation from the city crowd. This was
followed by an exemplary performance by dog squad of ITBP which consisted of
various drills like search and rescue operations, crossing of obstacle etc. Highlighting
the need for women to be self-secure and empowered, the girl students trained
by Chandigarh police under Swayam- a self defence training Programme, performed
different self-defence techniques that they had learnt in the due course. The
Administrator lauded the brave performance by students and encouraged more
women to join the programme as its a way to boost confidence in fighting their
fears. The city residents were left spellbound with the magnificent light and
sound show that showcased colourful visual presentations, ultra-modern laser
techniques and unique acoustics. The musical evening by Dubai artists and
Rudraksha Band also gave unforgettable experience to the audience. The city residents can make the most of this
week with multiple activities planned by Chandigarh Administration. The
activities for 7th March include special guided forest tours starting at
Paryavaran Bhawan, tapestry weaving workshops at Le Corbusier centre, art
workshop by city artists at underpass sector 17, Kavi Sammelan at Tagore
Theatre and Light & Sound show. Different
departments, organizations, and associations are working in tandem throughout
the week to spread the good cheer. An effort has been made to include people
from all age groups to participate in this Mahotsav be it fitness enthusiasts,
special children blood donors, artists,
singers, morning walkers, yoga lovers, theatre goers, children and young
adults, ladies and old people.

Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Sh. Vinod P Kavle, Secretary Culture, Sh.
Vinay Pratap Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Sh. Omvir Singh Bishnoi, DIG
Chandigarh, Sh Ishwar Singh Duhan, IG
(ITBP) and other senior officers of Chandigarh Administration were also present
at the event.
