Make Chandigarh a Centre for Sports for Entire India- Adviser

Sh. Dharam Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh  unveiled  the photographs of eminent sportspersons who represented India at International level in the presence Sh. Sanjay Tandon, President, UT Cricket Association. The Sports Complex 42 now showcases the portraits of eminent personalities like Sh. Balbir Singh, MS. Reena Khokhar, Mr. Rupinder Pal Singh, MS. Monika Malik,  Mr. Gurjant Singh, Ms. Anjum Moudgil, Mr. Shiv Singh & MS. Nandini. The Adviser also took the round of Sports Complex, and appreciated the department for keeping the complex updated with new facilities. He also inaugurated the newly laid Vinyl Flooring of the Gymnasium. Shiv Singh alongwith family and parents of Anjum Moudgil were also present and felt proud on the ceremony. The Adviser further stressed that Chandigarh should be developed as Centre for Sports for entire India  by way of developing and upgrading existing sports facilities of international standards.  He also directed Sports Department to constitute expert group, which should prepare an action plan to achieve above objective. He also directed the department to hold sports events/tournaments of various games in Chandigarh and encourage city youth to join sports. He further stressed to regularly e-monitor the performance of players during their practice session. This practice will be an effort to be a step towards attaining better results. The Adviser also appreciated the idea to construct Rehabilitation Centre for sports injury and an additional hostel in the sports complex for accommodating more players. He also encouraged to construct an additional Hockey Astrotruf near the existing astrotruf within 200 mtrs. so that national/international hockey tournaments could be organized in Chandigarh. The Adviser also insisted to speed up the process of giving cash awards to the international level players. Sh. Kapil Setia,  Chief Architect, Sh. Tejdeep Singh Saini, Director Sports & Joint Director Sports, Chandigarh Administration were present on the occasion.
