Enactus team of Panjab University, a Non-Profit Organisation is working towards creating a better future for underprivileged women of Nayagaon through Project Uday. The project aims at providing cloth-based alternative to plastic based sanitary napkins. By sparking conversations about menstruation and menstrual hygiene, Enactus team is helping break the taboo around the topic and making people aware about the benefits of using eco-friendly sanitary napkins, conveyed Prof. Seema Kapoor, Faculty Advisor of team. Enactus team along with Girls Hostel No. 3 (GH3) organised & quot; Mytharche & quot ;, workshop on Menstrual Health & Hygiene, 4 th in series at GH3, Sarojini Hall, Panjab University, conveyed Prof. Kapoor. This series was launched in April 2022 by Enactus team in collaboration with Versatile group, Ludhiana & DIR-India to promote reusable cloth based sanitary napkins designed by the trio, told Preet Kanwal, President, Enactus team. Prof. Roopali Garg (DSW Women), Dr. Simran Preet, Warden, GH3, Gurleen Kaur (Mrs. Punjaban 2017), Dr.AvneetKaur (Chairperson, Department of Biophysics), Dr.Sarv Narinder Kaur, Dr. Harjit Kaur, Dr. Twinkle Bedi, Dr. Pavitra Ranawat, Dr.Smita Sharma were amongst the other dignitaries present for the event. Dr. Rupinder Kaur, Chief Medical Officer, Panjab University, during her expert talk shared valuable knowledge on general menstrual health, access and availability of affordable and effective menstrual hygiene products and how to tackle the stigma around menstruation. She also told that many girls are coming to her with problems associated with plastic based sanitary napkins like redness and rashes, infections on using them for a longer duration, etc. She educated the audience on the benefits of cloth based sanitary napkins which are soft on the skin, environmentally friendly and cost effective. The talk was followed by a theme based theatrical performance by the Drama Team of Panjab University on how the upcoming generation should help in dismantling the taboos associated with menstruation and the steps to be taken to make the topic more approachable, told Sanya Prabhaker, Content Head. A zealous & mesmerizing performance by the drama team left the audience spell bound and was highly appreciated by one and all. Prof. Rupali Garg (DSW Women) appreciated the Enactus members on their effort to bring forth a change in the society. She remarked how little changes like these make the world a safer and kinder place for everyone.We all must have the capacity in ourselves to unlearn the mindset that has been inculcated and try to change with times to become a more inclusive society.
