BIORISK Management Center with the help of SNL, USA

Williams and Dr. Linda Winona, scientists from Sandia National Lab(SNL)., USA ,
along with Prof. Neena Capalash from Department of Biotechnology and Prof.
Prince Sharma from Department of Microbiology, met the Panjab University Vice
Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar today to discuss with him the roadmap and business
plan to establish BIORISK Management Center in PU which will be the first of
its kind Center in India with the mandate to train researchers from various
parts of the country on the Biosafety and Biosecurity aspects of research being
carried out in various Disciplines of Biology e.g. Microbiology, Biotechnology,
Biochemistry, Biophysics, Zoology, Botany etc. The detailed discussion involved
the building plan, resources to construct and generate funds for its
self-sustainability through the development of syllabi for certificate courses.
SNL will also train scientists from PU for equipment certification and these
scientists then can generate money through Consultancy and as certifiers. The
USA Department of State Biosecurity Engagement Program will help in setting up
the Center. PU had signed MoU with SNL last year in 2018 under which the
Department of Biotechnology, PU, in collaboration with SNL, will organize 2-3
workshops per year to train research fellows and faculty.
