Vedant Saini, a student of Class X of
Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh has qualified for the final round of the
prestigious International Math Olympiad to be held in July 2021. He is the
youngest member of the 6-member Indian contingent. The final eventearlier scheduled
to be held at St. Petersburg, Russia will be held in the online
mode between the 14th and 24th of July,
2021. The regular 4-stage selection process of
IMO was reduced to 3-stages due to the covid-19
pandemic. The first stage was a three-hour examination called IOQM
organized by the Mathematics Teachers’ Association (India). The Indian
National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) organized by the Homi Bhabha
Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), TIFR marked Stage 2, while the third
stage was the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp(IMOTC)
organized by HBCSE. Vedant Saini emerged victorious in these three
levels to now qualify for the final level. Given the gravity of
the Covid-19 pandemic, IMO organizers have allowed
students from severely hit countries to take the examinations
from their homes, under continuous video surveillance. Vedant will be
taking the exam from his home in Chandigarh. Senior Principal Ms. Vineeta
Arora congratulated Vedant and his proud parents for this
tremendous achievement and wished him the very best for the final round.
