The first meeting for the implementation of project IRAD(
Integrated Road Accidents Database) - a project of Ministry of Road Transport
and Highways, Government of India was held under the chairmanship of Sh. Mandip
Singh Brar Secretary, Transport, Chandigarh-cum- Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh.
Chandigarh is the first UT where this project is being implemented. It aims at
the scientific data collection pertaining to road accidents which will help the
concerned stakeholder departments i.e. Police, Transport, Highways/Engineering
and Health to analyse the root cause of these accidents and bring in requisite
solutions. Mobile and web based IRAD app will facilitate the investigation
officers and officials of other departments to fill in the accident related
data. There will also be integration with the existing applications such as
CCTNS, VAAHAN, SAARTHI etc to ensure seamless flow of data across the
departments. The Orientation training for the field officials will be conducted
shortly to familiarise them with iRAD app. Besides Nodal officer from
departments of Police, Health, Engineering/Highways and Transport, SSP Traffic
has been made the overall Nodal Officer of this project. Among others present
on the occasion included SSP Traffic, Additional Secretary Transport, NIC state
coordinator, DSP Traffic and Nodal officers from Engineering, Health and
Transport officials of Chandigarh Administration. It is noteworthy that the
project was initially launched in Tamil Nadu and through systematic efforts of
stakeholder departments, a significant decrease in fatal road accidents was
achieved. Now it is being implemented across the country under Union Ministry
of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
