INAUGURATION OF 'CONTINUOUS
AMBIENT AIR QUALITY MONITORING STATION AT CHANDIGARH

Chandigarh Administration is making
continuous efforts in monitoring the air quality of the city. As a step
forward, ‘Continuous Ambient
Air Quality Monitoring Station (CAAQMS)’ installed at Govt. Model Senior Secondary School,
Sector-22, Chandigarh has been
inaugurated by Sh.Dharam Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, UT
Chandigarh in the presence of Sh.Arun Kumar Gupta, IAS, Principal Secretary
Environment-cum-Chairman, CPCC, UT Chandigarh and Sh.Debendra Dalai, IFS, Special Secretary
Environment & Member Secretary, CPCC, Chandigarh. The CAAQMS has been
installed by Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee (CPCC) to monitor various
parameters of ambient air quality on real time basis. The Chief Guest
appreciated the efforts made by CPCC in stationing the CAAQMS for the people of
the city. Through this system,
large Number of parameters can be monitored simultaneously i.e. PM10,
PM2.5, CO, SO2, NOX, NH3, O3, Benzene,
Xylene, Toluene. This instrument also monitors meteorological parameters like
temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind speed, wind direction and solar
radiation. Further, this system automatically calculates AQI (Air Quality
Index) on the basis of various parameters which will be reflected in display
board which is very easy for common man to understand the quality of air. The function was
attended by Dr.Abdul Qayum, IFS, DCF, Sh.Rajiv Tewari, Director Public
Relations, UT Chandigarh, School Principal and other officials from the
Administration.
