A cultural as well as educative event at Government College for Girls Sector 42. The event was kicked off by flag off of newly launched Chandigarh Police Women Patrolling Vehicles, by esteemed Chief Guest Ms Anita Dharampal and Guest of Honour Ms Kiran Bishnoi. Recognising the UN Theme for International Women’s Day: ‘Gender Equality today for Sustainable Development tomorrow’, tree plantation was done by the esteemed guests at GCG 42. Recognising the need for awareness regarding Breast Cancer, a mobile Mammography van of ‘Tera hi Tera’ foundation was inaugurated at the college. This van will visit different colleges during the week. On display were products(paintings, pots, sweets)  made by women inmates of Burail Jail. Welcome was given to the guests by pipe and brass band of Chandigarh Police and Saraswati Vandana performed by girl students of GCG 42. As part of the Amrit Mahotsav celebration, a video showing role of female freedom fighters in India’s independence struggle was played. Ms Sonal from Child Helpline,  Mr Gautam Bharadwaj from SLA, Insp Dr Parvesh from Chandigarh Woman Cell,  conducted an awareness session of women rights and enabling schemes and laws. Cyber Skit ‘Ctl+Alt+Delete’ imparted much needed knowledge about cyber hazards, women being a vulnerable target of security hazards. Girl Child Jyoti highlighted the grave situation of female foeticide through a short poem. Momentum was picked up by educative songs regarding road safety by ASI Bhupinder. To enable women to stand up for themselves, Swayam team of Chandigarh Police demonstrated self defence techniques for the public. Also, couples united by Women Cell, were honoured. Each women’s success is an inspiration to others. Therefore, 12 women achievers were felicitated on this august day. Last but not the least, the show ended on a festive note with a Bhangra performance.  The end of the program, messages related to cyber security were displayed at different traffic junctions around the city.Cyber interns of Chandigarh Police coordinated with esteemed academia of Chandigarh and spread messages related to cyber security for women and distributed information handouts at different traffic junctions around the city. They also performed Nukkad Natak on cyber issues at Student Centre, Punjab University, Lake and Elante. Swayam team of Women Cell of Chandigarh Police imparted security and safety tips and demonstrated self defence  techniques   at CCET 26, College for Commerce Sector 50, Plaza Sector 17, Jana Bank Industrial Area, Infosys, Elante Mall, Guru Gobind Singh College Sector 26, DAV College Sector 10.
