To commemorate the World Earth Day on the
current year’s theme “Invest in our Planet”, another green energy initiative
has been taken by the Department of Science & Technology & Renewable
Energy, Chandigarh. A 350 kWp Rooftop SPV Power Plant at Model Jail
Complex, Sector-51, Chandigarh was inaugurated by Sh.Dharampal, Adviser to the
Administrator, Chandigarh in the presence of Sh.Praveer Ranjan, Director
General of Police, Chandigarh, Sh.Nitin Kumar Yadav, Home Secretary, and Sh.
Debendra Dalai, Secretary (Science & Tech.& RE) & CEO, CREST. This
Plant has been installed at Outer Parking Area of Model Jail at a total cost of
Rs.1.78 Crore including 10 years O&M. The Project has been designed
and executed by CREST (Chandigarh Renewable Science & Technology Promotion
Society), UT Chandigarh. This plant will generate minimum 4,20,000 kWh (Units)
per year with 17% module efficiency. Sh.Dharampal, IAS, Adviser to
the Administrator, UT Chandigarh appreciated the efforts made by CREST in
developing Chandigarh as a Model Solar City. He further applauded the effort of
CREST, Chandigarh in their continuous endeavour in promoting solar energy to
make Chandigarh, green city. He further directed that necessary action
should be initiated to tap all the potential rooftops/other spaces available
for SPV Power Projects in the Jail premises so that the Model Jail, Chandigarh
becomes energy surplus in another 03 months time.The function was attended by
Sh.Deepak Purohit, IPS, IG, Model Jail-51, Chandigarh, Dr.Abdul Qayum, IFS,
Additional Director, S&T&RE and other officials of the Chandigarh
Police and CREST, Chandigarh.
