 Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh received a delegation of 7 students and 2 Educators from the Webb School, Knoxville, USA under the Students Exchange Programme. The guests were received by the Interactors and the gracious Indian host families with much excitement on 11^th February 2019. On the following day i.e. 12^th February 2019, the delegation was accorded a warm welcome by the Senior Principal Mrs. Vineeta Arora and Vice Principal Mrs. Suparna Bansal on arrival in the school. A Special Morning Assembly by the Human Excellence Club ‘Sanskara’ was organised to celebrate Basant Panchami. The students, through heartfelt speeches, explained how Basant Panchami helps us renew our fervour and fills our lives with joy and colours. Kite flying- a defining element of Basant Puja was organised for the guest students and the students of class VI in which everybody participated with abounding enthusiasm. The Students Exchange Programme goes a long way in bringing two countries closer and is an effective way to build bridges of understanding amongst students. The students and the escorting teachers were taken around the school and got an opportunity to observe the teaching techniques and interact with the students in the classrooms. A special Basketball match was organised between the students from Webb School and Bhavanites. During their stay in Chandigarh the visitors will be taken around to the places of tourist interest and gain a first hand’s experience of Indian culture and tradition. In all, their visit will prove to be enlightening and imbibe new ideas to lead towards the betterment of society.

Basant Panchami is a festival that celebrates the onset of spring season. In Punjab it is celebrated as the festival of kites. People also worship Goddess Saraswati. Kindergarten students of ‘Petals’ (a unit of PML S D Public School) celebrated the festival. They came dressed in yellow colour. Each child brought something yellow in their tiffin and also get yellow flowers. Kids drew and coloured “kites”, they were also given kite cut-outs.

The Postgraduate Department of Commerce of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh organized a one-day capacity building workshop on “Creative Strategies in Digital Marketing and Management” under the aegis of RUSA on February 12, 2019. A renowned subject expert of marketing, Dr. Satinder Kumar, Assistant Professor, School of Management Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala, conducted the workshop. The workshop was focused on acquainting the participants with the creative and contemporary strategies and practical applications in the field of Digital Marketing and Management. The session was enlivened by engaging the students in management games. Around 200 students participated with much zeal. The workshop concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants.

Mr. Kiran Malhotra, Managing Director of Alliance Corporate Ltd; President of Indo-German Business Forum and Ambassador of City of Cologne, Germany visited Panjab University to identify the areas of mutual cooperation on different levels between the University of Cologne and Panjab University, Chandigarh. University of Cologne is one of the largest Universities in Germany and categorized as German Excellence University. The University has Clusters of Excellence in Plant Sciences, Ageing Research, Matter and Light for Quantum Computing, Markets and Public Policy. Panjab University would have first round to initiate joint research in the area of Chemistry and Nanotechnology which would include faculty and student exchange. In the next phase the plan is to extend areas of cooperation to plant sciences, economics, management sciences and health sciences. PU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raj Kumar, welcomed Mr. Malhotra and wished a fruitful collaboration between University of Cologne and Panjab University. He emphasized the necessity of such tie-ups in view of the current competitive and dynamic environment.  He also shared that PU would immensely gain from this collaboration.  Prof. Kumar suggested creating state of the art instrumentation facilities at PU with support of City of Cologne. During the interaction, Prof. Shankarji Jha,, Dean of University Instruction, Prof. Rupinder Tiwari, Coordinator, DST-Centre for Policy Research, Prof. S.K. Shishu Niketan Public School 66 Mohali beat Paragon Senior Secondary School 71, Mohali by 10 wickets in the ongoing Envolve U-14 Cricket Tournament. Envolve is a Gurgaon based company which is a one stop shop for schools looking for advanced co-scholastic and life skills focused activities for students.The first edition of the Envolve U-14 cricket tournament kicked off today. The first match was played between Paragon Senior Secondary School 71, Mohali and Gem Public School, Phase 3B2, Mohali. Paragon won the toss batting first scored 132 runs for the loss of one wicket defeating Gem Public School mohali by 45 runs. Man of the match was Kabir Shergill of Paragon who scored 61 runs. The second match was played between Smart Wonders School, Sector 71, Mohali and The Gurukul School, Zirakpur. The Gurukul school won the toss batting first scored 60 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Smart Wonders School won the match by 6 wickets. The third match was played between between Paragon Senior Secondary School 71, Mohali  and Shishu Niketan Public School 66 Mohali. Paragon School bat first scored 65 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, Shishu Niketan Public School won the match by 10 wickets. Man of the match was Nikhilesh who gave 6 runs in 3 overs and took 3 wickets.Total 12 teams are participated in the tournament from tricity. All matches are playing in the ground of  Shishu Niketan School, Sector 66, Mohali. Tournament is from 16 Oct. to 22 Oct. 2018.

ज़ी स्टूडियो ने नॉटी मेन प्रोडक्शन, इन्फेंट्री पिक्चर्स और ड्रीमित्यता एंटरटेनमेंट, की आने वाली पंजाबी फिल्म “काला शाह काला” की संसार भर में 14 फरवरी को होगी रिलीज़ । अमरजीत सिंह की लिखी और डायरेक्ट की इस फिल्म में सरगुन मेहता, बिन्नू ढिल्लों और जॉर्डन संधू मुख्य किरदारों में नज़र आएंगे। काला शाह काला एक रोमांटिक कॉमेडी है जिसमें एक सामाजिक सन्देश भी है । यह फिल्म पहली बार सरगुन मेहता और बिन्नू ढिल्लों को बड़े पर्दे पर एक साथ लेकर आएगी । फिल्म के बारे में बात करते हुए, ज़ी स्टूडियो के सी ई ओ शरीक पटेल ने कहा, हम फिल्म के ट्रेलर और गानों को मिल रही प्रतिक्रिया से बहुत ही खुश हैं। जैसे कि अब फिल्म की रिलीज़ आ गई है, हम उम्मीद करते हैं कि दर्शक हमारी कोशिशों की सराहना करेंगे और अपना प्यार देंगे । अदाकारा सरगुन मेहता ने कहा, “काला शाह काला का सेट मौज-मस्ती से भरपूर था। हालांकि हो सकता है कि फिल्म का विषय कुछ सीरियस लगे पर हमने उसे परम कॉमेडी के साथ परोसा है। बिन्नू ढिल्लों जी की कॉमिक टाइमिंग के हम सभी मुरीद हैं। पर मुझे नहीं पता था कि जॉर्डन के साथ काम करना भी उतना ही मज़ेदार रहेगा । यह फिल्म आपका मनोरंजन ज़रूर करेगी, यह वादा है । अदाकार-निर्देशक बिन्नू ढिल्लों ने कहा, यह कोई नया विषय नहीं है, हम अक्सर समाज में रंग रूप को लेकर भेद भाव देखते हैं । पर जिस तरह से इसको इस फिल्म में दर्शाया गया है वो काबिल-ए-तारीफ है, कि एक सन्देश भी दिया गया है वो भी बिना मनोरंजन के साथ समंझोता किए। ज़ी जैसे एक नेशनल ब्रांड के साथ एक क्षेत्रीय फिल्म के लिए जुड़ना पंजाबी सिनेमा के लिए गर्व की बात है । अदाकार-गायक जॉर्डन संधू ने कहा, इन हस्तियों के साथ काम करना मेरे लिए गर्व की बात है और सोने पर सुहागा है ऐसे कॉन्सेप्ट का हिस्सा बनना । मैं इससे ज्यादा और कुछ नहीं मांग सकता। अब हम अपनी फिल्म दर्शकों की कचहरी में पेश करने के लिए तैयार है, उम्मीद है दर्शक इसको पसंद करेंगे ।“काला शाह काला” संसारभर में 14 फरवरी 2019 को रिलीज़ होगी ।

एमसीएम डीएवी कॉलेज फॉर वीमेन के स्नातकोत्तर अंग्रेजी विभाग ने रिसर्च एन्ड एथिक्स पर पंजाब यूनिवर्सिटी केइंग्लिश एन्ड कल्चरल स्टडीज विभाग के प्रोफ़ेसर अनिल रैना का व्याख्यान आयोजित किया। छात्राओं के शोध आधारित प्रश्नो पर केंद्रित इस व्याख्यान में प्रकृति विज्ञान, समाज विज्ञान एवं मानविकी से सम्बंधित शोध प्रविधियों की जानकारी दी गयी। प्रोफ़ेसर रैना ने पारदर्शी व्यक्ति निष्ठता एवं साहित्यिक चोरी के विरोध में बौद्धिक सत्यतता की अवधारणाओं पर प्रकाश डाला। साहित्यिक चोरी को नैतिक एवं विधि सम्मत अपराध के रूप में मानकर प्रोफ़ेसर रैना ने छात्राओं को सेल्फ प्लेजरिज्म, घोस्ट राइटिंग एवं बिना अनुमति के अनुवाद करने जैसे कामों को लेकर सावधानीबरतने को कहा । कॉलेज की प्रिंसिपल डॉ निशा भार्गव के अनुसार इस प्रकार के प्रयासों से छात्राओं में शोध के प्रति अभिवृति जागती है क्योंकि मानव ज्ञान एवं समाज को सुयोग्य, सुविक्षित करने में शोध का महत्वपूर्ण स्थान है ।

किसी भी ब्लॉकबस्टर फिल्म का सीक्वल बनाना हिट फिल्म बनाने एक आज़माया हुआ फॉर्मूला है । पर आजकल के ट्रेंड को देखें तो सीक्वल फिल्में पिछली कहानी से कुछ अलग कॉन्सेप्ट लेकर बनाई जा रही हैं । इस चलन को तोड़ते हुए, पिछली कहानी जहाँ खत्म हुई थी वहीं से आगे का किस्सा शुरू करते हुए, तरसेम जस्सड़ और सिम्मी चहल की 2018 की हिट फिल्म “रब दा रेडियो” तैयार है सीक्वल “ रब दा रेडियो” के साथ । इस लीड जोड़ी के साथ “ रब दा रेडियो”  में बीएन शर्मा, अवतार गिल, निर्मल ऋषि, जगजीत संधू, हार्बी सांघा, गुरप्रीत भंगू, शिवेंद्र महाल, सुनीता धीर, तानिया और बलजिंदर कौर महत्त्वपूर्ण किरदार निभाते नज़र आएंगे। यह फिल्म मनप्रीत जोहल ने वेहली जनता फिल्म्स लेबल के तहत आशु मुनीश साहनी के ओमजी ग्रुप के साथ मिलकर प्रोड्यूस की है। इस फिल्म का निर्देशन शरण आर्ट ने किया है । जस्स ग्रेवाल ने फिल्म की कहानी लिखी है । फिल्म का संगीत वेहली जनता रिकार्ड्स लेबल के अंतर्गत रिलीज़ होगा । फिल्म का टीज़र हाल ही में वेहली जनता रिकार्ड्स के ऑफिशियल यूट्यूब चैनल पर रिलीज़ हुआ। फिल्म की कहानी वहीं से शुरू होगी जहाँ रब दा रेडियो में खत्म हुई थी । इस बार यह मनजिंदर और गुड्डी के वैवाहिक-बंधन पर आधारित होगी । फिल्म के लीड अदाकार तरसेम जस्सड़ ने कहा, “ रब दा रेडियो मेरे दिल के बहुत करीब है । उसने मुझे एक अभिनेता के रूप में पहचान दिलाई । और दर्शकों से मिली प्रतिक्रिया देखकर हम खुद को बहुत भाग्यशाली मानते हैं। “रब दा रेडियो” में हमने अपनी बेहतरीन कोशिश की है कि हम दर्शकों की उम्मीदों पर खरा उतर सकें। मुझे उम्मीद है कि हमेशा की तरह लोग मेरे काम को पसंद करेंगे । “ रब दा रेडियो ” की मुख्य अदाकारा सिम्मी चहल ने कहा, “ गुड्डी एक ऐसा किरदार है जिसने मुझे एक अभिनेत्री के रूप में ही नहीं बल्कि इंसान के रूप में भी विकसित होने में बहुत मदद की है। तो मैं इसे दोबारा रुपहले परदे पर निभाने के लिए बहुत उत्साहित हूँ। इस बार गुड्डी कुछ समझदार और परिपक्व हो गयी है पर उसकी पहले वाली मासूमियत अभी भी बरकरार है। मुझे उम्मीद है कि “रब दा रेडियो” भी लोगों के दिल में अपनी जगह ज़रूर बनाएगी । हम हमेशा ही अच्छे काम को प्रोत्साहित करने की कोशिश करते हैं। रब दा रेडियो जैसी क्लासिक फिल्म का सीक्वल बनाना कुछ जोखिम भरा हो सकता है, पर हर बार की तरह हम अपने काम और कांसेप्ट को लेकर आश्वस्त हैं। अब बस हम यही चाहते हैं कि दर्शक इसे खुली बाहों से स्वीकार करेंगे l फिल्म के निर्माता मनप्रीत जोहल और आशु मुनीश साहनी ने कहा फिल्म का विश्व वितरण मुनीश साहनी के ओमजी ग्रुप ने किया है । “रब दा रेडियो ” मार्च 2019 को रिलीज़ होगी ।

Government Home Science College organized a workshop on Counseling Techniques and Applications. The guest speaker Dr. Shashi Sethi, Director, ISHH Guidance and Counseling Centre from Panchkula, gave a valuable insight on various areas related to counseling for students. She began the session with discussion on the importance of case history and analyzing behavior of a child for counseling process. She informed the students that sleep, mood and appetite are three main indicators for the mental health. A power point presentation was shared with the students to give a brief overview of the steps of counseling and qualities of a good counselor. She also interacted with students on various theories and tests used in counseling and discussed about the scope of the counselling for aspiring counselors. It was an enriching experience for both faculty and students to attend the counseling session by the honorable guest speaker. Principal Dr. Sudha Katyal appreciated the interactive session between the students and the resource person. She also motivated   the students to become efficient counselor by attending such informative workshops in future as well.

Idol of Goddess Saraswati was unveiled and sarasvati vandana was recited. Wardens from other girl’s hostels, guests and residents participated in this religious ceremony and took the blessings of the deity.  Pooja was followed by basanth panchmi celebrations which involved taking swing and kite flying.

Forensic podiatry is the knowledge of the science of foot, footprints, gait and footwear to be used in crime scene investigation. Dr Kewal Krishan, Associate Professor and Chairperson, Department of Anthropology, Panjab University, Chandigarh will present the research in collaboration with Dr John DiMaggio- USA a renowned forensic podiatrist on ‘Forensic podiatry: a great help in crime scene investigation’ in 71st Annual Scientific conference of American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) to be held in Baltimore, Maryland, USA from 18-23 February, 2019. This is the largest forum of forensic scientists all over the world and more than 5000 forensic scientists attend this conference every year. DNA profiling, fingerprints, facial characteristics, hair, lip prints, and other characteristics of the human body have been successfully used by the investigating agencies/police to identify and catch the criminals since decades. Like these features, human foot and footprints are also unique to an individual. The variability of the footprints in individuals is enough to enable individualization in forensic examinations. This has been shown in a series of investigations conducted by Dr Kewal Krishan and his collaborator from USA, Dr John DiMaggio- a renowned forensic podiatrist. This research has been accepted by American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS). In the last decade, many methods of identification from foot and footprints have been developed which are successfully used in USA, UK, Australia and many countries of Europe to identify the criminals; however, in India, the footprints science is still considered as a rudimentary science. Its use in the criminal investigation is further restricted due to its less awareness amongst investigation agencies in India. The footprints are available almost at every crime scene in a variety of forms such as bare footprints, socked footprints or footwear prints. However, the police and the investigating agencies should be aware that how to search, secure and lift the footprints from the crime scene. Dr Krishan is a renowned forensic anthropologist and published more than 180 papers in reputed journals of forensic sciences and anthropology. He has more than 3000 citations of his research work. He recently contributed invited chapters to the most coveted Encyclopedias of Forensic Sciences, Legal Medicine and ArchaeologicalSciences published by Elsevier and Wiley, USA.

An intra-hostel Chess and Carrom Competition was held at Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Hall, Boys Hostel 4, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The Competition was co-ordinated by Kapil Sharma and Gurinderjit Singh, Block Prefects of the Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Hall which received over whelming response from the hostel residents. Lauding the initiative, Dean Student Welfare, Prof. Emanual Nahar said that Sports play a great role in our life as it keeps us healthy and active. We can have a healthy mind only when we have a healthy body. Great achievements come our way when we maintain our physical and mental well-being and sports help us to maintain a good health and improve coordination and overall personality of an individual. It makes a person more active, attentive and enhances his mental and physical capabilities. Prof. Nahar further said that as sports instill many values and virtues, every student should involve themselves in the sports activity even for a small time all through the day as it does not provide only physical strength however it increases mental power too. After tough rounds of competition, Ravi Chand Sharma stood first in Chess competition, and Atul Kumar got second position. In Carrom (singles) competition Ishan Guleria (5/28) bagged first position and Rohit Kumar Chaurasiya (4/5) got second position. In Carrom (doubles) competition team of Ishan Guleria (5/28) and Shagun Nag (3/52) ranked first and team of Rohit Kumar Chaurasiya (4/5) and Vijay Kumar (4/24) were second.
