A DAY OF MULTIPLE EVENTS AT GOVERNMENT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE

It was a day of multiple events at Government Home Science College. A workshop was organized under the aegis of RUSA on Nutritional Genomics-Coming Era of Personalized Nutrition for faculty members and P.G. Students. Dr. Neelam Khetarpaul, ICAR Emeritus Professor (Foods and Nutrtion) CCS, Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, Haryana was the resource person. She talked about the role of gene expressions in maintaining a healthy nutritional status. She emphasized on the importance of eating a healthy balanced diet according to genetic profile. The role of nutrigenetics and nutrigenomics was also stressed upon as a significant factor to plan a diet for any individual. She also focused on Personalized nutrition as a need of the hour and the significance of making diet plans according to the genetic makeup of individuals. As a part of students overall development, students were made aware of basic self defense mechanisms demonstrated by the professional trainers of Ozi Gym and Spa. RJ Meenakshi from ‘94.3 My FM’ hosted a series of activities. She made students aware of the importance of self defense in a women’s life and also promoted the newly launched mobile aap Vodafone Sakhi. She introduced the facilities provided by this app to the students.In the afternoon session, another workshop was held under RUSA for the residential students of the college on Lifestyle Management for Healthy Well-being, wherein, Dr. Khetarpaul emphasized on the significance of lifestyle changes and taking balanced diet  in maintaining good health and well-being. She talked in length about management of double burden of over nutrition vs under nutrition as well as nutritious recipes to prevent Anemia. Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, expressed her gratitude to all the honorable guests for their presence and sharing their valuable pool of knowledge.
