University to Develop Cognitive Science Lab

Panjab University, Chandigarh is planning to
set up a cognitive science lab, drawing upon the rich reservoir of
talent available in its campus. This ambitious project of the Vice
Chancellor, Prof Raj Kumar aims to be one of its kind labs in India with
a focus on interdisciplinary research involving Physics, Philosophy,
Psychology, Communication Studies, Neuroscience, Linguistics, Anthropology,
Mathematics and Artificial intelligence. The lab will
act as the catalyst to ensure intellectual cohesion and cooperation
across disciplines that have traditionally been researched independently. Prof
Raj Kumar shared his vision while releasing 2018 volume of Indian Journal of Psychology,
one of the oldest and most reputed journals in India, published since 1926. Complimenting
the editorial team, led by Professor Emeritus Jitendra Mohan, he exhorted faculty
to assume leadership mantle in delivering solutions to the corporate and the governmental
sector in the domains of human relations and developing intellectual capital.
Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean University Instruction highlighted the role and relevance
of ancient Indian wisdom in present times and need for integrating Indian value
systems with the industrialisation. He elaborated that all branches of ancient philosophies
deal with modern psychology. Prof. Jitendra Mohan expressed gratitude to
the Vice Chancellor for providing visionary leadership and
motivating faculty towards excellence. He shared that the next issue
of the journal will be devoted exclusively towards disseminating knowledge on excellence,
in its multivaried forms. Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, Prof.
Parvinder Singh, Controller of Examinations, Sh. Vikram Nayyar,
Finance & Development Officer, Prof. Meena Sehgal, Prof.
Sanjeev Sharma, Prof. Archana R. Singh, Dr. Shruti Shourie, Dr. Devinder Rana were
also present.
