Today, giving a strong message of ‘RISING
GIRLS POWER’, Yuvsatta-an NGO organized morning assemblies
with a unique ‘PINK TURBAN CAMPAIGN’, in
association with Peace Clubs of two prominent Schools of the city, namely
Government Girls Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 18C and St. Stephen’s School,
Sector 45B, Chandigarh. Where over 3000 young students, with girls adorning
Pink Turbans and boys pink stoles joined and took a solemn pledge to uphold the
rights and dignity of girls and women at all levels for a better India. Mrs.
Justice Daya Chaudhary, Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court was the
Chief Guest and Mrs. Alka Mehta, Mission Coordinator, Education Department,
Chandigarh presided over the event at Govt. Girls Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector
18C and Mr.
Justice Rajesh Bindal, Judge, Jammu
& Kashmir High Court was the Chief Guest & Mrs.
Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR presided
over the programme at St. Stephen’s School, Sector 45B, Chandigarh. Addressing
the gathering of young girls at Govt. Girls Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 18C, Justice
Daya Chaudhary became nostalgic and
shared that it reminded her of her School days, when it was her teacher and
parents who always motivated her to do more in life and at no stage they made
her feel inferior to anybody. She emphasized that similarly all teachers and
parents should motivate girls to aim high in life and support them to realize
their true potential. Mr. Justice Rajesh Bindal speaking at St.
Stephen’s School against
the evil-practice of female feticide stressed that Article
21 of the Constitution of India, provides that, “No person shall be deprived of
his life or personal liberty except according to procedure established by law.”
And he also mentioned that recognizing the need to promote girls and women
rights India was the first country to start ‘The National Girl Child Day’, in 2008, much ahead
to United Nations which also declared an International
Day of the Girl, four years later on October 11, 2012. He also
emphasized that key to empower girls and women is education. And all efforts
should be made to make it possible at all levels, so that no one is left
behind. Mrs.
Harjinder Kaur added that Turban-Pagri
is a symbol of honour & respect in all the regions and religions and
through this campaign Yuvsatta volunteers had beautifully used ‘Pink Colour
& Pink Turbans’ to send a strong message of ‘RISING GIRLS'. The days of
submissive girls and women had gone now in a modern world of 21st century
and it’s time for girls and women to raise their voice whenever & where
ever their basic human rights or dignity is violated. And it’s imperative for
each one of us to support this global fight for justice and gender equity. Feeling proud of four successful years of
running this ‘Pink Turban Campaign’, Pramod Sharma, founder-coordinator of Yuvsatta-an
NGO expressed his deep gratitude and thanks to
educational institution in the tricity of Chandigarh, Panchkula & SAS
Nagar(Mohali), who supported the idea and thus thousands of children’s and
young students had joined in this campaign with girls adorning pink turbans and
boys showing solidarity with pink stoles. The programme ended at both Govt.
Girls Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 18C and St. Stephen’s School with a pledge
of uphold and promote rights and dignity of girls and women by Principal Mrs.
Raj Bala and Principal, Mr. Louis Lopez administering this oath to young
students.
