The Department of Defence and
National Security Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh has organised a
special lecture by Maj. Gen. Amarjit Singh on the occasion of Army Day, here
today. Dr.
Jaskaran Singh, Chairperson, Department of Defence and National Security
Studies, introduced the speaker to the audience and also explained the
relevance of the Day, the role of army in the nation building and safeguarding
the frontiers from the hostile neighbours. Gen. Amarjit has spoken about the
security of India wherein he explains the Genesis of India as a nation and the
role and responsibilities of the government to make the core values of the
nation intact. He explains the role of military to protect the boundary of the
state and to maintain the integrity of the nation. The speaker briefly
explained the land and maritime borders that India shares with its neighbours
and the disputes/threats and challenges India is facing from them. The speaker
also talks about the role of media, nation building as India is a diverse
country with different religion, ethnicity, culture wherein a common ground of
unity must be nurtured. India is in a position where we can monitor or shape
international order providing we can keep the nation strong and powerful
without any unrest in the country. The lecture was attended by faculty,
research scholars and students of the department.
