Grand Finale of Smart India
Hackathon 2019 – Hardware edition (SIH2018) was inaugurated at CSIO amid
fanfare and enthusiasim. SIH is the first of its kind innovative methodology
adopted in India that will provide an opportunity to young technical minds to showcase
their creativity in the form of hardware products that can solve some daunting
problems faced by India such as need of clean water, waste management, creation
of Smart vehicles and Smart Communication, and so on. Anil Sahasrabudhe,
Chairman AICTE told this is the Third Consecutive year of Smart India Hackathon
World’s Largest Open Hackathon- Start India Hackathon. We are growing each year
in terms of participation and solutions. We started in the year 2017, with
participation of around 50000 students, in year 2018 around one lac students
participated. This year, the magnitude has grown bigger; around two lac
students have participated this year. The first part of Smart India Hackathon
2019, Software edition was conducted on 2nd - 3rd March 2019. Hon’ble Prime
Minister Sh Narendra Modi ji did live two way interaction with students through
web casting. The Grand Finale of Second part of Smart India Hackathon-2019,
Hardware edition is being conducted from 8th to 12th July, 2019. Dr Mohit
Gambhir, Director MHRD Innovation Cell and Coordinator Smart India Hackathon
2019 said, in smart India Hackathon 2019 Hardware Edition, more than
1.2 Lac students from 2235 colleges sent their entries for 198 problem
statements, submitted by more than 40 industries and 9 Central Govt. Ministries
and various Govt. Departments. In the Grand finale of Smart India
Hackathon 2019 Hardware Edition, around 2000 participants from 250 teams of 178
different colleges are participating, including IIT’s and NIIT’s. The grand
finale is being conducted from today for next 5 days at 18 different nodal
Centres in 9 states, one Union Territory and one Capital Territory of India.
These teams will provide innovative hardware solutions for 124 problems. In New
India, the participation of female candidates is enthusiastic this year, the
ratio of male and female is 1.6 : 1. The event was
started with local inauguration by Prof. RK Sinha, Director, CSIR-CSIO,
Chandigarh and Dr. RK Soni, Regional Officer & Director, NWRO, AICTE,
Chandigarh in presence of representatives from AICTE, various ministries,
participating teams and CSIO staff. In the central inauguration through Video
Conferencing, Hon'ble Minister for Human Resource Development, Dr. Ramesh
Pokhriyal 'Nishank' inaugurated the world’s largest event of its kind - the
five day grand finale of Smart India Hackathon 2019 (Hardware Edition) CSIO
will provide the help and infrastructure to the participating teams to turn
their dreams into reality. The function concluded with formal vote of thanks by
