CHANDIGARH ADMINISTRATION WELCOMES FIT INDIA MOVEMENT

The official launch of “FIT INDIA MOVEMENT” was made by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Sh. Narendra Modi. Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is the nodal ministry for this campaign. In this connection, state level function was organised by the Education & Sports Departments of UT Chandigarh at Tagore Theatre, Sector 18, Chandigarh. Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & Administrator UT, Chandigarh, Shri V.P.Singh Badnore was the Chief Guest at the occasion. A live telecast of launching of Fit India Movement by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi was observed by students of schools, sportspersons and others officials. Senior Officers of Chandigarh Administration including Education Secretary, Sh. B.L. Sharma, IAS, Secretary Sports, Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, UT, Chandigarh as well as Deputy Commissioner, Sh Mandeep Brar, IAS, were present. Director Higher Education, Sh. R.S. Brar, PCS, Director Sports, Sh.Tejdeep Singh Saini PCS, Director Social Welfare, Smt. Navdeep Kaur, PCS and Sh. Anil Grag, Additional Commissioner, MC also participated in the launch. Sports persons and students of various educational institutions took pledge to incorporate “FIT INDIA MOVEMENT” in their daily lifestyle .The Hon’ble Governor also felicitated top ranking Sports Persons as well as school students of Chandigarh. During the function, students of GMHS-43 performed Gymnastic Show. Today, FIT India Movement was launched in a big way in all the 121 Govt. & Aided Schools, 74 Private Schools and 16 Colleges. Municipal Corporation will install more open air Gyms in its parks so that citizens can utilize these for their daily exercise purpose. Similarly emphasis will be given on promotion of Yoga in parks and at Sukhna lake in coordination with the local NGOs and Associations. HE also directed Education and Sports Departments to encourage Sports for all schools students and to open sports infrastructure of sports complexes to nearby schools during school hours. It was also decided to organise cyclothone and marathons to promote fitness among residents of Chandigarh. It was further decided that Chandigarh Police will start a campaign for making its police personal more fit so that they can perform their duties in better way. Education Department will be starting a competition among all schools and then going to declare “best school in fitness category”. It was also decided to arrange physical and mental wellness modules for Senior Citizens and in all Special Homes being run by Department of Social Welfare UT, Chandigarh. Seeing the importance of contribution of various Sport Associations in promotion of Sports in Chandigarh, it was decided that all Sports Association will organise special drive for promotion of sports and creating awareness about it. In this connection, Worthy Administrator held a meeting of following senior officers:-

2.    Shri Arun Kumar Gupta, IAS, Principal Secretary (Home), UT, Chandigarh.
3.    Shri Ajoy Kumar Sinha, IAS, Secretary Finance, UT, Chandigarh
4.    Shri B.L.Sharma, IAS, Secretary Education, UT, Chandigarh
5.    Shri K.K.Yadav, IAS Secretary Sports, UT, Chandigarh.
During the  meeting,  HE emphasized  on physical  fitness including Physical, Sports  and Yoga activities  as well as wellness  of citizens of  Chandigarh . HE further stressed that the Yogic schedule of 20 minutes may be included during  morning assembly of all schools. During the meeting, Secretary Education explained that one compulsory period of physical education will be started for all students. 125 physical education teachers of Govt. schools will be imparted refresher course for Yoga so that they can further impart yoga training to all the students. During the meeting, Secretary Sports elaborated that all sports complexes of the department will be available for students and general public of Chandigarh.  A Women festival up to 35 years of age will be organised by the department to augment the general health and wellbeing of all the women. An indigenous rural sports tournament in the context of Fit India Movement will be organised by the Sports Department.
