Sobha Singh Art Gallery has expressed surprise
and anguish at the unauthorized use of the image of Guru Teg Bahadur Jee in the
official calendar for 2021 by the Govt. of Punjab. Bibi Gurcharan Kaur,
daughter of the eminent artist( late) Sobha Singh said that the Guru Teg
Bahadur painting by Sobha Singh is a registered work with the copyright office
of Govt. of India bearing registration number A.43872/84 and all publishing
rights are reserved with the family. It is a clear-cut case of copyright
infringement. The Govt. of Punjab should look into the matter and take strict
action against the officials who have done it in a clandestine manner to print
and remove the name of the artist from the image of Guru Teg Bahadur in the
calendar. This open violation of copyrights of the classic work of the eminent
artist, who was honored and declared ‘State Artist’ by Govt. of Punjab in 1973,
shows utter disregard to the copyright law as well as to the saint
artist Sobha Singh by the concerned department and the family will approach the
Chief Minister, Punjab for appropriate action against the concerned officials. Gurcharan
Kaur D/o Sobha Singh Artist, Sobha Singh Art Gallery.
