Dean International Students, Panjab University(PU), Chandigarh organized a seminar on Strengthening UK-India Higher Education Relations and Chevening  Gurukul Fellowship alongwith the British Deputy High Commissioner Office, Chandigarh, here today  Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, PU inaugurated the seminar and encouraged students to look for opportunities to study in the best universities of the world so as to improve their skills and in turn help the systems in their own country to  improve. Mr. Andrew Ayre, British Deputy High Commissioner, Chandigarh, gave presentation highlighting the educational opportunities for students studying in UK. He said UK is adiverse, multicultural society, home to an Indian diaspora of 1.5 million. Further he said in India hosts the largest Chevening Scholarships and Fellowships country programme in the world. He also mentioned that the Chevening Scholarship offers financial support along with the opportunity to become part of the highly regarded and influential Chevening global network. Dr. Sandeep Singh Kaura, Advisor, Skill development, Government of Punjab spoke on The UK experience-Chevening Gurukul Fellowship. He spoke about the advantages of this scholarship and how it helped him in developing his inner potentialities for his onward journey as an entrepreneur and as an adviser to skills India. Prof Nandita Singh, Dean International Students, spoke about the heightened interest of various universities from all over the world in the academic programmes and research collaboration with Panjab University. How these joint projects will add value for our existing courses needs to be worked out. About 200 students including faculty members attended this seminar. Dr Monika and Dr Sharma hosted the event. The program ended with a question and answer session in which many students sought clarification with regard to these scholarships. A group of twelve under-graduate students along with their two faculty members from the Government College, Nowshera of the Rajauri District in Jammu and Kashmir  visited Panjab University, Chandigarh, here today. The visiting group held an interaction with the Dean University Instruction and officiating Vice Chancellor Prof. Shankarji Jha. They also met Prof. Devinder Singh, Secretary to the Vice Chancellor and faculty members from the various departments of the university. Prof. Jaskaran Singh Waraich, Chairperson, Department of Defence and National Security Studies informed that their visit was part of the Deshattan 2019 tours being organised by the Rashtriya Rifles Force of the Indian Army under Operation Sadbhavana also known as Operation Goodwill. Op Sadhavana is a military-civic action programme launched by the Indian Army in the state of Jammu and Kashmir with the aim of “winning the hearts and minds” of the people in the region. The students also visited their department for an informal interaction with the faculty, research scholars and students of the department. This interaction was followed by a visit to the University Library and Gandhi Bhawan.  The Lunch for the visiting group was organised by the University Administration at the Boys Hostel No. 2.

नवोदित पाक कला विशेषज्ञों के कौशल को निखारने करने के उद्देश्य से एमसीएम डीएवी कॉलेज फॉर वुमन के गृह विज्ञान विभाग ने बेकरी और डेसर्ट पर दो दिवसीय कार्यशाला का आयोजन किया। इस कार्यशाला में 30 से अधिक छात्राओं ने बढ़ चढ़ कर भाग लिया। इस कार्यशाला को पाक कला विशेषज्ञ एवं कोच श्रीमती संजीता ने संचालित किया । कार्यशाला के पहले दिन प्रतिभागियों ने मसाला रोटी, फोकैसिया और कुकीज़ बनाने की कला सीखी, जबकि दूसरे दिन विशेषज्ञ ने मिठाई बनाने का प्रदर्शन किया जिसमें मटर रबड़ी, स्तरित मूस और इंस्टेंट ऑरो केक शामिल थे । कार्यशाला के समापन पर प्रतिभागियों ने कार्यशाला के दौरान सीखे गए व्यंजन तैयार करके अपने पाक कौशल का प्रदर्शन किया । एक अन्य कार्यक्रम में कॉलेज की छात्राओं के स्वयं सहायता समूह - सक्षम ने आहार सहायता दिवस का आयोजन किया । यह कॉलेज का एक मासिक कार्यक्रम है जो की छात्राओं को लो एनामेनिया, थायरॉयड, मधुमेह, खाद्य एलर्जी, बाल एवं त्वचा संक्रमण आदि से उबारने के लिए कार्य करता है । इस अवसर पर पोषण विशेषज्ञ सुश्री निशा गुलिया ने छात्राओं को उनकी विभिन्न जीवन शैली की चिंताओं के लिए विशेष आहार बताकर उनका मार्गदर्शन किया और उन्हें परामर्श दिया कि कैसे विभिन्न प्रकार के आहार इन रोगों एवं दैनन्दिनी चिंताओं से निपटने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाता है । कॉलेज की प्रिंसिपल डॉ निशा भार्गव ने कहा कि एमसीएम अपने विभिन्न हितधारकों को बेहतर जीवन के लिए हर प्रकार का ज्ञान देने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है और इस तरह के प्रयास इस दिशा में एक कदम है। उन्होंने कहा कि छात्राओं को सैद्धांतिक ज्ञान के साथ साथ व्यावहारिक अनुप्रयोग को पढ़ाना भी एमसीएम में प्रदान की जाने वाली शिक्षा की पहचान है ।

Five days workshop on “Creation and Management of Digital Libraries Using Open Source Software" organized by A.C. Joshi Library, Panjab University  in collaboration with INFLIBNET from 7-11 January, 2019, concluded, here today. Prof Shankar Ji Jha, Dean University Instruction and officiating Vice Chancellor in his inaugural address, emphasized that recorded human knowledge is key to development which is reposted in the libraries and also, in this digital world library professionals should come up with innovative ideas to disseminate the knowledge to the society. While delivering the valedictory address Professor Karamjeet, Registrar, PU, said that libraries are the lamp for the educational society. Professor Rajesh Gill, President, PUTA spoke that there is a huge responsibility on libraries to provide authentic information. Dr Rashmi Yadav, University Librarian informed that the workshop was attended by 38 delegates and few research scholars from various part of India – Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttrakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Bihar. All the participants received the Certificates for successful completion of the workshop.

लोकसभा चुनाव से पहले युवा कांग्रेस के नए अध्यक्ष पद के लिए नियुक्ति हो जाएगी। नया अध्यक्ष बनने के लिए दावेदारों में होड़ मच गई है। पिछले सप्ताह ही हाईकमान की ओर से बरिंद्र ठाकुर को अध्यक्ष पद से हटाया है । ठाकुर पर आरोप है कि उन्होंने युवा कांग्रेस के प्रभारी के साथ दुर्व्यवहार किया था, जिसके बाद उन्हें पद से हटा दिया गया है। इसलिए अब नए अध्यक्ष के नाम पर मंथन चल रहा है। अध्यक्ष पद के लिए चुनाव न करवाकर हाईकमान उपाध्यक्षों में से ही नियुक्ति करने जा रहा है।ऐसे में नए अध्यक्ष पद के लिए लव कुमार और प्रिति केसरी दौड़ में सबसे आगे हैं । युवा कांग्रेस के कुल चार उपाध्यक्ष हैं । संजीव बिडला और नितिन राज चौहान भी इस समय उपाध्यक्ष हैं । युवा कांग्रेस के अध्यक्ष पद के लिए बरिंद्र ठाकुर सहित बाकी अन्य उम्मीदवारों ने चुनाव लड़ा था । ठाकुर ने सबसे ज्यादा वोट हासिल किए थे, जिस कारण इन्हें अध्यक्ष और बाकी बचे उम्मीदवारों को उपाध्यक्ष नियुक्त कर दिया गया था । साल 2017 के सितंबर माह में युवा कांग्रेस के अध्यक्ष सहित पूरी कार्यकारिणी के लिए मतदान हुआ था । ऐसे में अब इन उपाध्यक्षों में से ही नया अध्यक्ष नियुक्त करने के लिए हाईकमान की ओर से मंथन चल रहा है । उपाध्यक्ष लव कुमार जिला कांग्रेस के अध्यक्ष गुरप्रीत सिंह गाबी के करीबी हैं । जबकि लव कुमार बाल्मीकि समुदाय से संबंध रखते हैं । जबकि प्रिति केसरी महिला नेत्री होने के साथ-साथ युवा कांग्रेस के पूर्व अध्यक्ष हरमेल केसरी की पत्नी हैं। हरमेल केसरी इस समय चंडीगढ़ कांग्रेस के प्रदेश महासचिव के पद पर भी तैनात हैं ।

 Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh received a delegation of 7 students and 2 Educators from the Webb School, Knoxville, USA under the Students Exchange Programme. The guests were received by the Interactors and the gracious Indian host families with much excitement on 11^th February 2019. On the following day i.e. 12^th February 2019, the delegation was accorded a warm welcome by the Senior Principal Mrs. Vineeta Arora and Vice Principal Mrs. Suparna Bansal on arrival in the school. A Special Morning Assembly by the Human Excellence Club ‘Sanskara’ was organised to celebrate Basant Panchami. The students, through heartfelt speeches, explained how Basant Panchami helps us renew our fervour and fills our lives with joy and colours. Kite flying- a defining element of Basant Puja was organised for the guest students and the students of class VI in which everybody participated with abounding enthusiasm. The Students Exchange Programme goes a long way in bringing two countries closer and is an effective way to build bridges of understanding amongst students. The students and the escorting teachers were taken around the school and got an opportunity to observe the teaching techniques and interact with the students in the classrooms. A special Basketball match was organised between the students from Webb School and Bhavanites. During their stay in Chandigarh the visitors will be taken around to the places of tourist interest and gain a first hand’s experience of Indian culture and tradition. In all, their visit will prove to be enlightening and imbibe new ideas to lead towards the betterment of society.

Basant Panchami is a festival that celebrates the onset of spring season. In Punjab it is celebrated as the festival of kites. People also worship Goddess Saraswati. Kindergarten students of ‘Petals’ (a unit of PML S D Public School) celebrated the festival. They came dressed in yellow colour. Each child brought something yellow in their tiffin and also get yellow flowers. Kids drew and coloured “kites”, they were also given kite cut-outs.

The Postgraduate Department of Commerce of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh organized a one-day capacity building workshop on “Creative Strategies in Digital Marketing and Management” under the aegis of RUSA on February 12, 2019. A renowned subject expert of marketing, Dr. Satinder Kumar, Assistant Professor, School of Management Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala, conducted the workshop. The workshop was focused on acquainting the participants with the creative and contemporary strategies and practical applications in the field of Digital Marketing and Management. The session was enlivened by engaging the students in management games. Around 200 students participated with much zeal. The workshop concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants.

Mr. Kiran Malhotra, Managing Director of Alliance Corporate Ltd; President of Indo-German Business Forum and Ambassador of City of Cologne, Germany visited Panjab University to identify the areas of mutual cooperation on different levels between the University of Cologne and Panjab University, Chandigarh. University of Cologne is one of the largest Universities in Germany and categorized as German Excellence University. The University has Clusters of Excellence in Plant Sciences, Ageing Research, Matter and Light for Quantum Computing, Markets and Public Policy. Panjab University would have first round to initiate joint research in the area of Chemistry and Nanotechnology which would include faculty and student exchange. In the next phase the plan is to extend areas of cooperation to plant sciences, economics, management sciences and health sciences. PU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raj Kumar, welcomed Mr. Malhotra and wished a fruitful collaboration between University of Cologne and Panjab University. He emphasized the necessity of such tie-ups in view of the current competitive and dynamic environment.  He also shared that PU would immensely gain from this collaboration.  Prof. Kumar suggested creating state of the art instrumentation facilities at PU with support of City of Cologne. During the interaction, Prof. Shankarji Jha,, Dean of University Instruction, Prof. Rupinder Tiwari, Coordinator, DST-Centre for Policy Research, Prof. S.K. Shishu Niketan Public School 66 Mohali beat Paragon Senior Secondary School 71, Mohali by 10 wickets in the ongoing Envolve U-14 Cricket Tournament. Envolve is a Gurgaon based company which is a one stop shop for schools looking for advanced co-scholastic and life skills focused activities for students.The first edition of the Envolve U-14 cricket tournament kicked off today. The first match was played between Paragon Senior Secondary School 71, Mohali and Gem Public School, Phase 3B2, Mohali. Paragon won the toss batting first scored 132 runs for the loss of one wicket defeating Gem Public School mohali by 45 runs. Man of the match was Kabir Shergill of Paragon who scored 61 runs. The second match was played between Smart Wonders School, Sector 71, Mohali and The Gurukul School, Zirakpur. The Gurukul school won the toss batting first scored 60 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Smart Wonders School won the match by 6 wickets. The third match was played between between Paragon Senior Secondary School 71, Mohali  and Shishu Niketan Public School 66 Mohali. Paragon School bat first scored 65 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, Shishu Niketan Public School won the match by 10 wickets. Man of the match was Nikhilesh who gave 6 runs in 3 overs and took 3 wickets.Total 12 teams are participated in the tournament from tricity. All matches are playing in the ground of  Shishu Niketan School, Sector 66, Mohali. Tournament is from 16 Oct. to 22 Oct. 2018.

ज़ी स्टूडियो ने नॉटी मेन प्रोडक्शन, इन्फेंट्री पिक्चर्स और ड्रीमित्यता एंटरटेनमेंट, की आने वाली पंजाबी फिल्म “काला शाह काला” की संसार भर में 14 फरवरी को होगी रिलीज़ । अमरजीत सिंह की लिखी और डायरेक्ट की इस फिल्म में सरगुन मेहता, बिन्नू ढिल्लों और जॉर्डन संधू मुख्य किरदारों में नज़र आएंगे। काला शाह काला एक रोमांटिक कॉमेडी है जिसमें एक सामाजिक सन्देश भी है । यह फिल्म पहली बार सरगुन मेहता और बिन्नू ढिल्लों को बड़े पर्दे पर एक साथ लेकर आएगी । फिल्म के बारे में बात करते हुए, ज़ी स्टूडियो के सी ई ओ शरीक पटेल ने कहा, हम फिल्म के ट्रेलर और गानों को मिल रही प्रतिक्रिया से बहुत ही खुश हैं। जैसे कि अब फिल्म की रिलीज़ आ गई है, हम उम्मीद करते हैं कि दर्शक हमारी कोशिशों की सराहना करेंगे और अपना प्यार देंगे । अदाकारा सरगुन मेहता ने कहा, “काला शाह काला का सेट मौज-मस्ती से भरपूर था। हालांकि हो सकता है कि फिल्म का विषय कुछ सीरियस लगे पर हमने उसे परम कॉमेडी के साथ परोसा है। बिन्नू ढिल्लों जी की कॉमिक टाइमिंग के हम सभी मुरीद हैं। पर मुझे नहीं पता था कि जॉर्डन के साथ काम करना भी उतना ही मज़ेदार रहेगा । यह फिल्म आपका मनोरंजन ज़रूर करेगी, यह वादा है । अदाकार-निर्देशक बिन्नू ढिल्लों ने कहा, यह कोई नया विषय नहीं है, हम अक्सर समाज में रंग रूप को लेकर भेद भाव देखते हैं । पर जिस तरह से इसको इस फिल्म में दर्शाया गया है वो काबिल-ए-तारीफ है, कि एक सन्देश भी दिया गया है वो भी बिना मनोरंजन के साथ समंझोता किए। ज़ी जैसे एक नेशनल ब्रांड के साथ एक क्षेत्रीय फिल्म के लिए जुड़ना पंजाबी सिनेमा के लिए गर्व की बात है । अदाकार-गायक जॉर्डन संधू ने कहा, इन हस्तियों के साथ काम करना मेरे लिए गर्व की बात है और सोने पर सुहागा है ऐसे कॉन्सेप्ट का हिस्सा बनना । मैं इससे ज्यादा और कुछ नहीं मांग सकता। अब हम अपनी फिल्म दर्शकों की कचहरी में पेश करने के लिए तैयार है, उम्मीद है दर्शक इसको पसंद करेंगे ।“काला शाह काला” संसारभर में 14 फरवरी 2019 को रिलीज़ होगी ।
