Neerja Bhanot Girls Hostel No. 10 inaugurated at PU

Chandigarh and Smt. Kirron Kher, Hon’ble Member of Parliament inaugurated
Neerja Bhanot Girls Hostel # 10 in presence of Sh. Parimal Rai, IAS,
Advisor to UT Administrator and Prof. Arun K. Grover, Vice Chancellor, Panjab
University, Chandigarh, here today.
Hon’ble Governor, in his address lauded
the efforts of Panjab University (PU) for the newly constructed building of
girls hostel which is named after none other than the courageous Neerja Bhanot,
the pride of Chandigarh. He further added that PU has been working consistently
in the expansion of women hostels in step with the growing demands of
accommodation enabling the students to excel in studies, sports and
co-curricular activities. He added that PU has always been concerned with the
development of women education and in achieving this goal through the provision
of comfortable and safe residential facilities for its women students. The
result of the initiatives taken by the University in this direction is to be
seen in the achievements of its women students. There are many IAS officers and
other public service officers, scientists, academics and international award
winning sportspersons who have studied and lived here in the PU hostels, he
added.
Smt. Kirron Kher in her address felt nostalgic of coming to
the University which is like her own campus and felt honoured to be part of the
program while remembering the supreme sacrifice by the bravest of brave girl,
Neerja Bhanot who saved many lives.
Prof.
Arun K. Grover, in his address mentioned Neerja Bhanot as a symbol
of highest sacrifice to save human lives. He informed that it is the
prime duty of the University to provide conducive environment to women students
and research scholars in fulfilling their dreams. PU in its step to provide
safety to the women in PU hostels will definitely contribute in their achievements.

Bhanot shared the three messages she stood for during her life- a) Do your
duty, come what may b) Do not compromise on self respect c) Do not tolerate
injustice. She loved her work and did her duty till the last breath, he added.
The family of Neerja Bhanot was also present on the occasion.
Earlier,
the plaque of Dewan Anand Kumar Ji was unveiled at the Dewan
Anand Kumar Hall, Foyer Area, Ground Floor, Administrative Block, PU by Sh.
V.P. Badnore, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & the Administrator, UT Chandigarh
and Smt. Kirron Kher, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Chandigarh in presence of
Sh. Parimal Rai, IAS, Advisor to UT Administrator, Prof. Arun K.
Grover, VC and senior PU officials. They also inaugurated the new T-1 Flats at
PU South Campus, Sector-25, Chandigarh in presence of Prof. Rajesh Gill, Panjab
University Teacher’s Association (PUTA) President. The dignitaries also went
inside to review the flats. There are 30 flats for Professors/Associate Professors
and each flat consists of 3 bed rooms, one study room, attached bathrooms,
separate drawing cum dining room and modular kitchen.
