Seminar on the ‘The Tradition of Vedic Studies in Punjab & Social Value’ at PU

‘Punjab is the Karmabhumi of the Gurus, and the roots of knowledge run deep in this land’, stated Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, while inaugurating the Seminar on ‘The Tradition of Vedic Studies in Punjab & Social Value’, here today, which was organized by the Dayanand Chair for Vedic Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh. He further stated the since time immemorial, Punjab has contributed to the learning and teaching of the Vedas. Innumerable scriptures and texts have been written in this land. On the one hand Punjab enriched the nation with food, and on the other it has been a leader in showering knowledge, he added. In the modern era, it was Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati who made the hymns of the Vedas resonate in the land of Punjab. The Hon’ble Governor further added that the message of social values would be a help in making human a human, because the message of the Ved is this: Come together let us move forward, let us speak together, let us try to understand each others mind. He promised every kind of support to the Chair. Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, in his address said that PU is fortunate that on the land of  Vedas, Knowledge and Penance, it is conducting research on the Vedas. He further informed that in the last 43 years, this Chair has given many scholars to the Vedic world and has produced more than 70Ph.D. He informed that efforts are being made by PU for tization
of ancient manuscripts. Keynote speaker, Prof. Kamlesh Kumar Choksi, from the Gujarat niversity, spoke about the practical aspects of the Vedas and Vedic Civilisation, from reservation of texts, to their teaching and interpretation, ultimately leading to a grassroot level application of India’s ancient wisdom. Dr. Virupaksh Jaddipal, Secretary Sandipani Rashtriya Vedavidya Pratisthan, emphasised the study of Vedas as the source of all knowledge. Prof. Virendra Kumar Alankar, Chairperson, Dayanand Chair for Vedic studies, threw light upon the Punjab connection of the Vedas, which is the subject of the seminar which will conclude on 16th ovember 2018.
