Peace Fest-CPF2020 to happen around Baisakhi and

Colorful kites
and bright posters lit up an otherwise gloomy Wednesday afternoon as 500 school
children’s from 50 prominent Schools of Tricity and seven different states of
India took part in the first ever Children’s Peace Fest-CPF2019, organized by
Yuvsatta, Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Department of
Environment, Chandigarh Administration, State Legal Services Authority and
Government Home Science College, Chandigarh. Celebrated 150 years of
Mahatma Gandhi’s birth centenary in a style, children from all backgrounds
including the challenged, village and city, from the Institute for the Visually
Impaired, Institute for Deaf & Dumb, Snehayala and Ashiana participated in
the multiple events that took place today. The Fest kicked off with Inter-School
Poster Making, Clay-modelling, Peace Poems, Short Mobile Video Contest and
Gandhi Quiz in the morning at the Government Museum, Sector 10. Questions on
Gandhi’s life and times formed had the children shooting answers with
confidence. A traditional Indian lunch and kite flying followed at the
Government Home Science College, Sector 11, and partner schools were
felicitated. Sukhna Lake saw students enjoying a boat ride. While the
celebrations and Gandhi Quiz focused on the Mahatma’s ‘Leave no one Behind’ philosophy,
the poster making contest was themed on Chandigarh Says No to Polybags’. Prominent
amongst those who addressed the young students included Prerna-the Girl Child Ambassador of
Chandigarh, Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR, Shri Ramesh Negi, Chairperson,
DCPCR, Debendra Dalai, Director, Environment, Science & Technology
& Chief Conservator of Forests, Chandigarh Administration, Prof. Nistha
Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh National Law
University, Shimla, Prof. Devi Sirohi, Ex-Chairperson, Chandigarh
Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Mr. Gagandeep Singh of Baba Aya
Singh Riarki School & College, Gurdaspur, Ms. Rita, Member, DCPCR, Prof.
Sudha Katyal, Principal, Government Home Science College and Pramod Sharma,

went to Praghya & Manasvini of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh. On the
occasion Pramod Sharma, Coordinator, Yuvsatta announced that next year 2nd Children’s Peace Fest-CPF2020 to
happen around Baisakhi and will have international participation.The programme
ended with felicitations by Mrs. Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR, of host
Schools Principals whose students hosted the guest students from different
