In a major setback to Bahujan Samaj
Party (BSP), Sardar Jagir Singh, its Ex-president, Chandigarh unit today joined
Congress at a function held at Congress Bhawan, Sector 35 here. As many as six prominent
leaders from BSP were inducted to the Congress fold while Pawan Kumar Bansal,
Congress Lok Sabha candidate addressed a large gathering in the presence of
Pardeep Chhabra, Congress Chandigarh unit’s party president. While formally
inducting the new entrants, Pawan Kumar Bansal, said that besides strengthening
the Congress manifold, new joinings indicate the growing trust that people have
in Congress when it comes to the real development of our city. “Instead of
misleading the public, we have always promised to achieve realistic and doable
goals. Sometimes public gets carried away by the ‘joomlas’ thrown by other
parties but eventually they realise that for the long-term development, it is
only Congress that can be trusted,” he said. After joining Congress,
Sardar Jagir Singh said that he really respects Bansal, and his team comprises
well-trained and experienced individuals who are all set to provide their
unconditional support to Congress. Among those who joined Congress today
include names like Gurmukh Singh, ex-Gen secretary of the local unit, Arun
Sharma, BSP secretary, Chandigarh, Jaswant Rai, Ex General secretary (BSP
Office Bearer Chandigarh tent and catering association), Gogan Ram, ex-general
secretary (Dadu Majra), Fur Khan, Mukhtiar Singh, Charanjit Singh, Sarup Singh
Saini, Kewal Krishan, Ajmer Singh, Prem Singh, Gurdev Singh, Harjinder Singh
and many more. While welcoming the new leaders, Pardeep Chhabra, Congress
party president said, “We welcome the BSP leaders whole-heartedly into the
Congress family. Our party is always there for people who believe in uniting
people for the shared vision of development instead of dividing people on the
basis of religion and caste.”
