CSIO conducts State Level Teacher Orientation Workshop for 27th NCSC – 2019

Central Scientific Instruments Organization in joint collaboration with the Environment Society of India, Chandigarh organized  “State Level Teacher Orientation Workshop for 27th National Children Science Congress (NCSC) - 2019” at CSIR-CSIO, ISTC auditorium under CSIR- JIGYASA program. More than 180 teachers from private and government schools of chandigarh participated in this workshop. Mr. N.K. Jhingan , Secretary, ESI welcomed dignitaries. Dr. H.K. Sardana, Acting Director CSIR-CSIO, (Chief guest) and Dr. Lalit Sharma , Member of NAC, DST, New Delhi inaugurated the workshop. Dr. Lalit Sharma explained about the NCSC program and its importance in popularizing science in his inaugural speech. Dr. Pooja, Jigyasa Nodal briefed about the JIGYASA program and invited schools of chandigarh to join this JIGYASA program for developing the scientific temper amongst students. The dignitaries planted trees in the campus and released handbook on NCSC. In technical session , Dr. Kuldeep Singh Bath, scientific officer, PSCST, Chandigarh described focal theme and sub theme of 27th NCSC in detail. Dr. H.K. Sardana delivered an expert talk on “Towards excellence in science, research, and innovation “, and Dr. Lalit Sharma explained the process, structure. and quality of good science project for National children science congress, and motivated all the teachers to guide students for making good quality projects in large numbers. This technical session was very well appreciated by participating teachers and was a great success to train the teacher about various aspects of science, research, and innovation. This is landmark collaboration between Environment society of India and CSIR-CSIO. This collaboration will bring excellence in developing science temperament of students as well as helping in developing new methodologies of experiential learning in science. In National children science congress program there are two age groups of students who can participate, junior group (10-14 years), Senior group (14+-17). Students learn the scientific process and work upon societal problems and suggest scientific solutions under the mentorship of a teacher or knowledgeable person. This makes their vision broader in science and its applications for the benefit of the society.
