‘Say No to Single Use Plastic Campaign’ through Street Plays

Today,
as part of the Chandigarh Administrations mass awareness campaign against
the use of plastic under the theme “Plastic Mukt Bharat”, Department of
Environment, Chandigarh Administration started conducting street plays in
different parts of the city. On the first day three street plays were conducted
at Manimajra’s main bus stop, Grain market and Bapudham Colony, Sector 26,
Chandigarh. Around 500 people participated and listened to the artists
spreading the message of ‘Say No to Single Use Plastic Campaign’ through Street
Plays. Sharing his concerns Mr. Debendra Dalai, Director, Department of
Environment said that we hold a great responsibility to actively
participate in dealing with the major environmental issues like the
irresponsible use of plastics, waste and resource management. He further added
people of Chandigarh remain in forefront, especially on environmental issues.
And he is very optimistic that in this ‘Say No to Single Use Plastic Campaign’
also residents of the city will actively participate to make Chandigarh Plastic
waste free city. And to spread the message among masses at large, the
Environment Department started these street plays, where in during this entire
month of September these street plays will be organized at different locations
of Chandigarh. Through the street plays people are made aware to discard use of
all ‘Single Use Plastic Products’ like polythene bags, plastic cups, plates,
small bottles, straws and certain types of sachets, unnecessary packing etc. in
line with government policy.
