Commencing
the celebrations of Hindi Divas at Panjab University (PU), Prof. Raj
Kumar, Vice Chancellor, PU, flagged off the ‘Hindi Rally’ organized by the Department
of Hindi. Appreciating the efforts of the Department, Prof Raj Kumar said that,
“Hindi language has a rich tradition and while we promote Hindi we should also make
an effort to take along other regional languages which have a significant contribution
in enriching our culture.” He also said that efforts like such help in initiating
a collaborative approach where different departments can become a part of the
event and the message can be spread in its true sense. Hindi Divas is
celebrated on 14 September across the country every year as it is
on this day in 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India had adopted Hindi as the official
language of India. Dr. Gurmeet Singh, Chairperson, Dept of Hindi, PU said that
“ this year we have organized a Hindi rally where we are making an effort to involve
several departments in the campus in coming together and celebrating the love for
language.” More than 150 students participated in the rally, carried
placards with famous Hindi quotes and chanted slogans showcasing their
pride and love for the language. Many competitions like poetry
recitation in Hindi, recitation of the Hindi alphabet; skits etc
were made a part of the rally to encourage student involvement. A special
board was placed at student centre to promote signatures in Hindi.
As the rally
began from Arts Block 2, faculty and students from various departments joined them. Senator
Jagdisah Mehta, Prof Latika Sharma, Chairperson, Department of Education;
Dr.Nand Lal, Chairperson, Department of Education; Prof. Neerja Sood, Prof.
Baijnath Prasad, Prof SP Sehgal and Dr Ashok Kumar from the host Department; Dr Rajesh
Jaiswal Dr.Balbir Kumar and Dr. Narendra Kumar from Dept. of Evening Studies; Dr.Panjkaj
Srivastava from Dept. of Philosophy; Dr Mahendra from Dept. of Laws; Prof.AshwaniKoul,
Chief Security Officer and Mr. Jatinder Moudgil, Manager, Publication
Bureau took part in the rally. Dr. Naresh and Dr. Amrinder Pal Singh coordinated
the rally at UIET. Students Neelam and Anjali from GCG -11 also presented a
special performance in the rally. Earlier in the day, Prof Raj Kumar
also released the new edition and launched the website for the
research journal ‘Parishodh’ brought out by the Department of Hindi.
Thereafter, the Department also screened the much acclaimed movie, ‘Hindi Medium’
befitting the theme for the day.
