(UFV), Canada led by Dr Joanne MacLean, President and Vice
Chancellor, UFV and accompanied by Dr. Andy Sidhu, Chancellor, UFV,
Prof. Satwinder Kaur Bains, Director, South Asian Studies Institute UFV
& Principal; UFV India; University Advisor, Canada-India Relations and Mr.
Gurneet Singh Anand, Associate Director of UFV Chandigarh visited
Panjab University(PU), here today. The
interaction meet of the delegation of UFV with Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor,
PU in the presence of senior PU officials and faculty members was to take forward
the long history of collaboration between the two institutions. PU VC stated that
now the collaboration has matured well over the years and in addition to the regular
faculty and student exchange programmes, urged to work towards big projects by
establishing lab/centres in the common areas with research as priority. PU VC said that the need of hour is to focus about well being of humanity. He said that there is a wide gap between haves and have nots and India being strong in demography, there is a huge number of workable manpower available in the country which can be helpful for PU and UFV to come together for unparalleled collaborations. Dr Joanne MacLean while appreciating the vast range of activities of research at PU, said that strengthening the partnership further needs to be focused. She lauded PU’s identified current areas of research and future plans – Cyber Security and
Artificial Intelligence, Cancer Research Institute, Green Technologies, Non-Conventional Energy and Medical Devices. Dr. Andy Sidhu said that he is looking forward to fruitful collaborations with two way exchange programmes. The meeting was attended by a number of Deans and Directors of Panjab University, namely, Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instruction, Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Registrar; Prof. Ramanjit Johal, Director Research Promotion Cell; Prof. Pam Rajput, Dean Arts; Prof. Deepti Gupta, Dean International Relations; Prof. Gurpal Singh, Dean Languages; Prof. Sanjeev Puri, Director, Center for Industry-Institute Partnership; Prof. Harish Kumar, Director, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship; Prof. Rajat Sandhir, Associate Director, Research Promotion Cell; Dr. Rohit Sharma, Chief Coordinator and Project Leader BIIONEST, Prof. Simrit Kahlon, Chairperson, Dept. of Geography; Prof. S.
