The Department of Geology, Panjab University, Chandigarh under the aegis of the ONGC Chair, is holding an interactive one-day Workshop-cum-Seminar on “The Energy  Scenario in a Consumer Driven India” on November 14, 2018 with a view to highlight the potential and the constraints on the three major sources of energy i.e. Nuclear Energy, Hydrocarbon Energy  and Non-conventional Energy.  The role of energy from pooled resources will also be discussed. The leading experts in the field of Nuclear Energy will highlight its importance and exploration and will dwell on the specific need to promote this form of energy when many countries of the world are shutting down their nuclear plants. Experts will highlight the present scenario of gas hydrates and their exploitation with projection of these situations in the coming decades. Another highlighted aspect will be the great potential of shale gas as at present it remains under-exploited in the country. In the USA, it has changed the commercial dimension with several companies who have taken advantage of this relatively new high hydrocarbon potential. Lastly there is a vast potential in the non-conventional energy resources, which also commensurate with our energy needs. This includes geothermal, solar, hydroelectric, wind and tidal energy resources. It will be an ideal opportunity for the participants consisting of academicians, students and interested persons to interact and remove or clarify their doubts. A common concern of society for more power plants when Nuclear Energy is destructive shall also be addressed.
