Workshop on Critical reading and effective writing: the Tools for research

A two days workshop on Critical reading and effective writing: the Tools for research started today in SAIF CIL department, Panjab University Chandigarh. Dr.  Andrzej Cirocky from University of York, York, UK  and Dr Garima Dalal from JNU New Delhi will impart knowledge about the varied aspect of  technical writing.  Director SAIF/CIL Prof. S.K.Mehta, welcomed the dignitaries and participants  and emphasized that such a workshop will be very beneficial to young researchers both from sciences and humanities for improving their writing skills.  In the inaugural address by worthy Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar articulated that research and innovation is very close to his heart as it is related  to the society. The findings must be expressed to the world in the simple and strong language  so that masses  are able to make use of it. He congratulated organizers for conducting the workshop and emphasized that more similar workshops should be organized frequently of at least one week duration that will benefit teachers in their API score. Researchers should think of farmers issues and benefits of person in last line. Resource persons Dr.  Andrzej Cirocky from University of York, UK and Dr Garima Dalal from JNU gave an overview of the contents of the workshop. In the next two days, the articipants will be imparted detailed knowledge about the effective writing  covering he wide range of important topics such as understanding plagiarism, synthesizing research material  and writing references and citations. The workshop combines both theory and practice of academic reading and writing. All the handouts and worksheets provided during workshop are intended to help researchers not only to learn to read and write English texts critically and thoughtfully but also to construct text that meets standards required by international journals. Prof Deepti Gupta, Chairperson of the workshop thanked Vice Chancellor for his encouragement. She articulated that she receives a lot of request for improving the scientific documentation of several projects. The workshop will certainly enhance the participant’s capability to improve their reading and writing skills.
