26th State Level Children’s Science Congress -2018 concludes
at CSIR-CSIO

The
three days, 26th State Level Children’s Science Congress -2018 for
Punjab concluded today at Indo-Swiss Training Centre, CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh. This
congress was organized by Punjab State Council for Science & Technology
(PSCST) in association with CSIR-CSIO , Chandigarh. Around 500 students and
teachers from all over Punjab attended the event. During the congress, 131
projects were presented by children of 10-17 years of age on the focal theme of
the congress “Science Technology and Innovation for a Clean Green and Healthy
Nation”. PSCST as nodal agency for
Punjab has been organizing this annual science popularization event for the
past 26 years to inculcate scientific temperament amongst
children. The event was catalysed and supported by NCSTC, National Council for
Science and Technology Communication, DST, GOI.
On
the concluding day, result was announced and 16 projects were selected to
represent the state at the national level CSC to be held at Bhubaneshwar from
27-31 Dec. 2018. The first prize in senior category was won by Gurber Singh and
Roopanshi from BCM Arya School Ludhiana who presented their project on ‘cultivating mushrooms from stubble’. In
Junior category, the first prize was won by Krishika and Yatish from Bhavan’s
school, Amritsar. They prepared a project on ‘biogas production’. prize winners
were from Ludhiana, Moga, PathankotThe prizes were given to the winners by Dr.
Jatinder Kaur Arora, Executive Director of PSCST, Dr. R.K. Sinha, Director,
CSIO, Mr. Pawan Kumar, DST, Dr. N.S. Jassal, Principal, ISTC, Dr. Pooja Sharma,
CSIO and Dr. K.S. Bath, PSCST. The basic
Idea of the Event is to promote innovation and ideas arising in the young minds
of the nation. During the event, activity corners on science and mathematics
were also set up to enthuse the participants about science and mathematics. List of winners at
