Third International Conference on
Sarasvati River will be organized by Panjab University(PU), Chandigarh in
collaboration with Haryana Sarasvati Heritage Development Board, Panchkula
(Haryana) on 8th and 9th
February,2019, with the aim to revisit and comprehend Indian civilization,
which developed in and around river Sarasvati, informed Prof. Anju Suri,
Chairperson, Department of History, PU. The historical literature along with
archeological, scientific studies and techniques help in reviving river
Sarasvati, which originated in Himalaya and passed through Haryana, Rajasthan,
Sindh and Bhawalpur before descending in Rann of Kutch. The significance of
River Sarasvati in Indian civilization is the central theme of
the conference. The conference would further focus on the origin, journey,
relevance and disappearance of the river Sarasvati and on agricultural
practices essential for sustainability of life. The conference will take into
consideration the archaeological evidence and recent explorations along
Sarasvati river Palaeochannel. The rejuvenation of river Sarasvati which is
very pertinent issue to be addressed today shall also be discussed during the
course of conference. The cumulative knowledge of different disciplines of
social sciences throwing light on the history of river Sarasvati on Indian
civilization will be discussed in various technical sessions of the conference.
