RADIO CELEBRATES 8th ANNIVERSARY

A new show called Campus Roundup will soon be
launched by Panjab University’s Community Radio Station Jyotirgamaya 91.2 MHz,
announced Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Chief Coordinator of Jyotirgamaya
and Registrar of the University, during the 8th birth anniversary
celebrations of the Radio Station on the occasion of 7th World Radio Day organized
by School of Communication Studies(SCS), here today. He further
added that students of the SCS will cover events that are held across
campus and then prepare a radio package for the listeners. Also, a Memorandum of
Understanding between UNICEF and Community Radio Association has been signed to start
a new show which will talk about child marriage and continuing education of girls.
Radio Jyotirgamaya will produce a total of six shows, three each on child marriage
and continuing education of girls. Prof Shankarji Jha, the Dean of University
Instructions (DUI) and officiating Vice Chancellor, in his address
while appreciating the efforts of the department, traced the
history of Radio. Sh. Vivek Trivedi, Social Development Officer of
Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh encouraged students to actively
participate in the day to day functioning of the PU Radio. He said
that he love this medium as it does not visually distract and one
can multi- task while listening to Radio. During the event, as many
as 17 students from Economically Weaker Section (EWS) who successfully
completed a Certificate Course in Radio Production and Programming
were awarded certificates and kits by Radio Jyotirgamaya. The course was run
in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh. Next phase of
this course will begin in April and 33 seats are available for the same. Earlier,
Prof Archana R Singh, Coordinator of Radio Jyotirgamaya and Chairperson
of the Department, while addressing the gathering said, PU Radio works for Community
Welfare and Deendayal Antodaya Yojna National Urban Livelihood Mission, Government
of India is an effort towards development of the EW section. Community Radio
contributes towards this effort by offering the Certificate Course in Radio Program
Production. She added that the department tries to help the participants to get
jobs in the industry. The event ended with a cake cutting ceremony
and lunch for all present.
