More Professionals are Taking to Writing

Chandigarh Literary Society (CLS) organized a book reading session at Rotary House today. Some of the noted authors including wife of the Advisor to the Administrator UT Chandigarh, Mrs Lippi Parida, plastic surgeon and author from Ludhiana, Dr. Jas Kohli, veterinary doctor and author Dr Rana Preet Gill, and corporate executive, writer and poet, Mandeep Caur read out excerpts from their respective writings and interacted with the audience. Advisor to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh Shri Manoj Kumar Parida, was a special guest of the evening, while former IAS officer, author and motivational speaker, Vivek Atray wrapped up the discussions. Lippi Parida is the author of the popular memoir is also an administrator of the ASIAN LITETARY SOCIETY.  She is not only a proloific writer but a painter too, and receipient of Woman Achiever Award,.She read out excerpts from her latest novel, ‘If the Blue Lotus Sings’, which is based on a truly controversial event that took place in Puri, Odisha.  She read out the chapter that brought about the spiritual connect between Guru Nanak and Sikh religion, which she said is the most modern and universal religion, and the Lord Jagannath Temple.  She however lamented the commercialisation of the Lord Krishna's name for ulterior motive. Dr Jas Kohli thinks of himself as a ‘Cosmetic surgeon gone astray’ is a fiction writer, humour poet, birdwatcher, singer and astronomer. As a writer, he is partial to humour and his first fiction book entitled, ‘Anything to Look Hot’ which was based on the life of a plastic surgeon in Bollywood, was published in 2015. He read out excerpts from his latest book,  ‘Lights. Scalpel Romance’  which filled the hall with laughter. Dr. Rana Preet Gill, a veterinary doctor, writer and author, with over 115 middles in various leading newspapers that she had been writing for almost last two years, narrated her first middle about her father's struggle for education, "Right to Education", which is one of the essays in her compilation "Finding Julia". Mandeep Caur, a corporate professional in leadership position in a telecom company related her discovery of her true self and true love in writing, and started writing poetry.  She recited a poem on winning, from her book "Living to Winning". Those who attended included Khushwant Singh, Lily Swarn, Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi Chair Madhav Kaushik, Hardeep Chandpuri, among others.
