The National Symposium cum Alumni meet organized by the Department of Biochemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh was inaugurated by Professor Deepti Gupta, Dean, Alumni Relations, here today. She highlighted the role of english proficiency in academic writing for scientists.She praised the efforts of the department in bringing together the alumni every year. Professor Debi Sarkar, Director IISER, Mohali highlighted the role of combinatorial approach for targeted delivery of gene with respect to liver disease. He described his journey of developing this technology using Sendai virus to the patent and technology transfer. It was exciting for the students to hear a success story of a scientist. Prof. Archana Bhatnagar, Chairperson, Department of Biochemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh emphasized that such interactions provide a common platform for the researchers for collecting interesting facts, statistics and other useful information as well as to interact with academicians, researchers and scientists working on different aspects of this field with a common purpose of influential growth and contribution towards a better world. Dr. Navneet Agnihotri and Dr. Amarjit S. Naura, the organizing secretaries of the symposium felt that such events help in receiving intelligent insights from leading scientists, which can be a motivating factor for personal as well as professional growth for the students and young researchers. Eminent speakers like Prof. J.N. Agrewala, IIT Ropar, Prof. Dheer Singh, NDRI, Karnal, Dr. Ashish Ganguly, IMTECH, Chandigarh, Dr. A. Awasthi, THSTI, Faridabad delivered inspiring talks while Prof. Madhu Khullar, PGIMER, Chandigarh chaired the session. Later in the day, a young scientists forum and poster presentations were the main attraction as they are required to update the knowledge in science and increase increase experience in the scientific meetings. The alumni of the department also are getting together to provide inspiration to the current students and researchers and will discuss various aspects related to studies, employment and entreprenuership on December 23, 2018. From networking, to meeting the keynote speaker for advice, to creating connections with researchers of similar interests, to enjoying the extra-curricular conference program, furthermore attending these conference was an excellent occasion to get refreshed in research.
